I agree. You aren't fixable. Stupid and all.

Make the policing more community involved and responsible. When the officers and members of the community know each other well they have more trust for each other and the Cops become more "peace officer" oriented. Save the "roll ups" for the serious crime. Let the foot patrolmen handle the minor stuff and give them the latitude to be lenient and use common sense to keep the peace. Also...stop harassing folks for minor drug crimes and non aggressive behavior.

These are solutions, but they'll only go so far. The only way these places can clean themselves up is if the good people of the physical community are made stronger than the bad.

People like Whoopi Goldberg would say responsible gun ownership is the way to go here.

Agree with the both of you. I always felt that the police could do more to just talk to the children playing basketball and getting to know them as opposed to sitting in the cars across the street waiting for them to do something stupid. And this works both ways too.

Don't discount the changes in schools, either. I know a lot of people here probably got into fights in high school, I know I did, but nowadays that can result in criminal charges. These are kids, and they know better about a lot things, but that doesn't mean we should treat them like adults. Putting them into a system where, as a 16 year old, getting suspended from school results in you breaking your parole isn't conducive to them ever getting out of that system.

Don't get me wrong, everyone's actions are their own and there is no excuse for any single action in this post, but that doesn't mean overall trends like this have no effect.

No doubt. Someone has to start taking the proper steps. Those being "paid" to do a job should for a change take the lead and actually be a part of the solution.

Ok, since police are so terrible, let's see how these areas like West Baltimore do without any police. Just leave those areas that hate police to police themselves. Morgan Freeman called police terrorists. Ok Morgan, the police need to just leave those areas alone. I wonder how long there would be an uproar over how bad police are needed. Also, 3 of the cops charged in Baltimore are black, so even black cops aren't free of this hate for police.

The city would implode from lack of funds.
