I never met Torrey Ward. Earlier this month, I heard Jack Williams speak glowingly of him. His words echoed the sentiments shared by so many on this board. By all accounts, Torrey was a great man. I knew the person he called "Mom" must have been a great woman. A week or two after hearing Jack's words, I received an email from a lady with whom I'd been corresponding stating that our planned meeting would have to be postponed due to a tragic accident involving her son. I hadn't made the connection until that moment. We've since stayed in touch and I'm sharing this update as a small gesture toward their family. I'm sure many of you have received the email about the scholarship fund via NAS but I figured it wouldn't hurt to post here as well. Thanks in advance to those who've given and shared.

Torrey Ward was a great basketball player for the Blazers, but he was more than that, he was a great man.

He was an exemplary son, a great father, a dedicated coach, a mentor to his players, a friend you could count on, a man who always stood up for what was right and at the same time loved to pull a prank and joke around.

Torrey had integrity, character, and a great sense of humor. He lit up the room when he walked in and he always had a smile.
