Baseball Polls
Last week we checked in at # 25 in the D1baseball.com poll and are expected to move up multiple spots this week. We were not, however, ranked in any of the 4 other major polls (USA Today, CBN, Baseball America, NCBWA).

Hopefully we'll get love in ALL 5 polls this week.

RE: Baseball Polls 4/20
I just don't see us making any huge gains only having put up a 3-0 week against a lackluster Hofstra team. Don't think we'll fall back any, but do think any gains will be minimal. Much more potential to make noise this week.

Baseball Polls 4/20
I would think our current streak would factor in a little, even though it includes those Hofstra wins. Wins are wins though and I'll always take them regardless of some poll love.

Normally I'd agree with you, but several teams ahead of us had poor weeks. By attrition we might move up in the eyes of the voters, even after beating a weak team. It's hard to ignore a 28-8 team with a strong track record coming into the weekend. As CG just mentioned, we'd won 7 games in a row before those Hofstra wins and are continuing to prove we belong in the rankings.

# 24 UCF went 1-3; # 23 Nebraska went 2-2, and # 20 UC Irvine also went 2-2. We might check in at # 22, one spot behind Maryland and 2 spots behind Dallas Baptist.

One downer is that Coastal went 1-2 against Radford at home this weekend and are 6-5 in April. I was hoping our game with them on the 28th would be a battle of two ranked teams but they're not holding up their end of the bargain.

Pretty good work, 08!

Nostradamus has got nothing on me.

Glad to see Charleston and Coastal still ranked in this one. Don't think that'll be the case in the other polls, however.

The guys at D1 seem pretty favorable towards teams once they've been ranked. I get not crucifying a team for 1 bad weekend, but it took Virginia having a whole ****** month before they dropped out. Either way, let's have Charleston & Coastal keep winning (except against us) & they can climb along in the polls behind us!

this may be too early to talk about, whats our chances on hosting a regional? Is are remaining schedule strong enough to even make that a possibility?

Very unlikely. Not only is our resume as it stands not strong enough, but we don't have the facilities that other schools could provide. We'd have to have an overwhelmingly good resume so that the committee couldn't avoid letting us be a host site. Basically we'd have to end up top 12-15 in the RPI.

With no other NC school in range to host, it sure would be nice to run the table and jump into that discussion.

Yeah I figured it would be take a great effort in these last few weeks of the season, but it would awaome if it happened.

Indeed, one can always hope. The silver lining is that our winning streak has most certainly made us a solid 2-seed whereas after our loss to Towson we were looking more like a 3. Even if we don't jump above that level, the committee might give us a "favorable" draw as a result.

We're also getting closer and closer to the point where we can be good enough to host. It's so crucial to get that opportunity. When you look around the map there's no "easy" host site. It will be great when we're finally viewed as that tough place no one wants to go as a Regional destination.

USA Today: http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/bas...ches-poll/

22. Charleston
26. UNCW - 62 votes
29. Coastal - 40 votes
33. UNC - 28 votes

I'm struggling to discover the # of votes that #25 got, so I'm unsure how far out we are of actually cracking the T25. Nonetheless, upward movement.

We received 38 votes in USA Today last week, so defintely some significant upward movement there.

NCBWA's Top 30 poll is the last one we're waiting on.

According to Warren Nolan, our RPI and our SOS is better than Charleston. But also, according to Warren Nolan, a 13-2 (.867) puts Charleston in 1st, 1/2 game over the Hawks with an 11-1 (.917). Huh???

They don't know that its a CAA rule that it comes down to percentages, not the "Games back" column. We're behind in games back but ahead in percentage. Not sure what other conferences use primarily but my guess is GB is the default.

To provide additional info? Not sure. None of this is an exact science, I'm afraid. Baseball is still kind of like the Wild West when it comes to polls and rankings still because it's a non-revenue sport.

I've always thought the highest win % is the deciding factor. Seems I may be wrong.
