It is always interesting to read the prices for cost of living figures in such periodicals (note the apartment rental prices around the UAB area). They are like a "freeze frame" picture in time so one can see exactly how much the COL has changed over the succeeding years. A TV report on the new apartments now being built around UAB are expected to rent for between $1100 and $1600 per month.

An ad for the Rexall Drug store on 20th street and 1st ave. north in the NEWS for 12/8/41 (it had been kept because of the page one Pearl Harbor coverage that day) had a breakfast offer of 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, grits, biscuit and coffee for 15 cents.

This was the back to school issue, so it had a lot of ads and was jumbo sized.
