What a country!
You are out of your mind. Poor people cannot afford those things and you know it.
Dude, get out and take a look around.
You guys are going to have to provide proof for those kinds of statements.
Escalades are 50k cars at least. Poor people could not and would not be able to even qualify to get those cars.
As a matter of fact, I don't think you can even get food stamps if you have a car payment.
lol, I've seen it. It's beeing going on for a decades. I talked about it above. All one has to do is go outside and work in a service industry to see it.

I'm going to say this.. There are those who know how to work the system to get all the aid they can so they don't have to do a honest day's work.. There are those who barely scrape by and use assistance.. Then there are those in the middle..

You can't even get food stamps if you have a car payment unless it's under very special circumstances.

Fit, you can call me a liar all you like, but I have no reason to lie to you about this. I worked for 8 years, through high school and college, and saw this fraud first hand many, many times. The govt can't keep up with the fraud.

And there are those who do work but under the table (or commit crime) so that they get entitlements AND make money tax-free.

That is a false statement because you can't get food stamps unless you have a job. Unless you are disabled.

Agree 100%. It's mind-blowing how naive some folks can be. I see this type of behavior all the time in and around Charlotte and Raleigh. Brand new luxury cars parked outside a delapadated trailer / projects, several children running around outside playing, etc. It's not all of the residents but there's enough of it going on to indicate some really f'd up priorities in how they spend their money.

You are wrong. Lots of people (US citizens and non-citizens) qualify for SNAP and there is no work requirement. If you are a US citizen from age 18-60 and able-bodied you do have to "register" for work but you do not have to have a job.
From the US government itself:
http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10101.pdf
"Most able-bodied people between the ages of 18 and 60 must register for work to qualify for SNAP. Many people may be required to participate in an employment or training program. Some college students also may be eligible."

Depends on the state. You can absolutely get food stamps with a car payment in a lot of states and the circumstances don't have to be that special. The decision belongs to the state, but the fed guidelines are as follows:
Quote:Licensed vehicles are NOT counted if they are:
used for income-producing purposes,
annually producing income consistent with their fair market value,
needed for long distance travel for work (other than daily commute),
used as the home,
needed to transport a physically disabled household member,
needed to carry most of the household's fuel or water, or
if the household has little equity in the vehicle (because of money owed on the vehicle, it would bring no more than $1,500 if sold).
For the following licensed vehicles, the fair market value over $4,650 is counted:
one per adult household member, and
any other vehicle a household member under 18 drives to work, school, job training, or to look for work.
For all other vehicles, the fair market value over $4,650 or the equity value, whichever is more, is counted as a resource.
Fed facts.
I used to live down the street from an elementary school and on the other side of the school were 3 different section 8 apartment complexes. MANY people living in the section and and that I know to have been on food stamps (since we used the same grocery store) drove late model vehicles that would be considered "luxury", even when used.
There are even "special circumstances" as you put it that allow people to have fairly new (less than one or two year old) vehicles and receive benefits.
I sold insurance for a while and visited many clients that lived in section 8 housing, drove nice vehicles, had big screen tv's, new cell phones, and Ipads laying around. It's about knowing the system and learning how to play it. For some it's a way of life.
