I think it would be interesting to combine the NCAA and NIT into one field of 100 - the top 7 seeds in each region would get first round byes.

That may not be a signature but I think you're letting way too many teams in at 100. 80 would be the max I'd allow in and really, when you have 4 post-season tourneys now and spots for 132 teams, including a highly respected and contested consolation tournament, that's plenty. You're trying to determine the national champion, not set a dinner club invite for the best teams from the best conferences and every conference champion as well as any team with any realistically sound odds of winning it gets the chance to do so.
