Speaking of weird, the EZF webcam is right now a picture video of an open, empty gate at the stadium.

Monday morning and the camera is pointed back in the right direction.
And the ceremonial tree is no longer on the roof beams.

01-wingedeagle Somebody asked me yesterday what was the big black chute in the northeast corner of the stadium running down from the concourse level toward the field. I speculated that it was a chute to get construction or landscaping materials down to the site. Anyone know for sure? 01-wingedeagle

That's part of the ramp that the team will use to travel between the locker room and the field.

One good thing about Saturday was the EZF looks great. I'm not as worried about the size of the scoreboard now that I saw it in person.

Now the steel is complete (or looks to be - there was a chunk of the roof missing on Saturday).
I wonder if they'll put another tree up, or if jumping the gun with the tree is considered bad luck by the steel workers?

Today there are a couple of walls starting to sprout on the east side of the building, around where I believe the film/meeting room is supposed to be.

Slightly off-topic ... here is an example of the level of facilities spending going on at even the middle levels of the P5.

RE: EZF Construction Thread
Does anyone here know anything about what is proposed for the next phase of stadium renovations and how much that might cost? My best guess would be that it would cost around $60 million to renovate whole place and bring it all up to code, but I don't know what's planned. Is it realistic that Rice can raise that kind of money? Is the university going to be willing to help pay for it? It may be the kind of one-time investment that needs to be made if the money can't be entirely raised by donors.

Sheets of black mat stuff going on top of the dirt on the fringes of the bowl.
Something to stop the erosion, before they put a thin layer of grass on top?

In Dr. K's first podcast, I believe he said the next likely step in renovations would be either the east or west side. My assumption was the west considering (a) he mentioned whether or not it might include the press box and (b) it would make sense to fix up the home side first.

I couldn't even begin to speculate anything about costs, especially since there hasn't been anything released about the scope of the renovations. If we limit it to fixing the bathrooms and installing some luxury boxes, it may not be all that costly. However if we go big and do it right, it might get rather expensive.

It sounds like it could take several years to complete if they don't address both sides and the south endzone in this phase. It would probably make the most sense to redo the home side first. They could move the MOB and the students over to the West with the rest of us and just leave the East side for visiting fans. It may be a practical solution to the problem.

Empty East Stands would look horrible on TV
