Always love Dukes having success in a national spotlight! Funny that he's switching from an the offense that kicked the other's butt in the playoffs. They must have seen his potential from across the field!

What's funny is all those NDSU/Viking fans that get to have a Duke run one of their favorite teams offenses.

Try being a JMU fan having an NDSU QB lead your favorite team's offense

Too bad Reich did not get the job a week earlier, then DeFilippo could have taken the Eagles' OC job.

How long until John is an NFL HC? Assuming Minnesota continues to see success.

RE: John DeFilippo
I have known Flip since right after his graduation. Would see him on his visits to Richmond every summer. Dude always had the it factor. He knows football and is supremely confident. He was Eli Manning’s first coach as a rookie with the Giants.
I always felt he was destined for great things and told him so. He was so humble. Always knew the right things to say. He handled that interview well. I am now a big Vikings fan.

Flip wanted play calling duties, so he still would have gone to Minnesota. Pedersen not giving those up.

Petersen is in the conversation as one of best play callers in the NFL at the current time.

Flip was a good teammate as well. He only played in a few games when I was there, but he knew the offense when he had to step in. He's a good dude.

Congrats to DeFilippo. If he gets a HC job in the near future could have 3 former CAA players as NFL HCs At the same time...Ironically, DeFilippo, like Nagy, is 39 and from PA.

Wasn’t Flip second string for his career at JMU? My recollection was that he became a starter only because of injury to the starting QB. Am I right 71?

I believe so. The only time he got in a game that I remember was against Richmond in 1997. That was my senior year, so I cannot vouch for any other years he was there. What I can say is that Greg Maddox was the starter in 1998. Mickey ran Maddox off and Charles Berry (NC State transfer) started the season in 1999, got hurt and others played but I don't know if Flip was one of them.
Back to the 1997 Richmond game, Maddox got hurt and Flip came in. He drove us down the field for a TD at the end of the first half, I think. At the start of the third we did the somewhat famous kicker-trips-Ordonez-squib onside kick. I'll give Wood credit for using it, at that time. However, Wood then decides, for whatever reason, to put our third string QB in for a series. We threw an interception on the first play of the drive. We had the lead and the momentum and would've gone up by two scores with another TD, but Wood squandered it. We lost another close one to RU in Harrisonburg.

I believe it was Wood that ran Maddox off (by trying to move him to TE, so Maddox quit). MM would have loved to have Maddox his first season given the number of injuries at QB.

I seem to recall 5 or 6 guys getting time at QB in 99. Flip was definitely one of those, but its really going to test my memory to remember the others, besides Berry, Mike Connolly who went from nowhere to starter in the Homecoming UConn game, and one of the Paquette brothers.

Box Score for that game: https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/j...chmond.pdf
1998 UR game he saw the field:

He appeared to be a 2nd string QB used sparingly in 1999, as the QBs hardly passed at all. Very much a run first offense that year. It looks like about halfway through the season, he hardly saw the field at all, as Paquette saw more starts.
According to his wikipedia page, his senior year was 1999.
He doesn't appear to have ever started a game as far as I can tell.

I feel like his first opportunity was Richmond. He got hurt in that game and was out for the season.
