All of those franchises suffered serious attendance set backs at some point in the past decade. Hell, the Clippers had 25 years of attendance set backs until Blake and Paul came along.

No, 72 Lakers. I believe they won like 68.

69 wins actually, just looked it up. They didn't lose from Nov. 5-Jan 9.

This is interesting:

Could Ferry, the Hawks’ GM-in-limbo, be the NBA Exec of the Year?
January 28, 2015 | Filed in: Atlanta Hawks / NBA.

Danny Ferry hasn’t been seen lately, but his creation is going great. (Hyosub Shin/AJC)

Credit (or blame, depending on your perspective) esteemed former colleague Michael Lee, now of the Washington Post, for planting this seed. We were sitting next to other another in the crowded Philips Arena press room after the Atlanta Hawks had beaten Oklahoma City for their 15th consecutive victory, and Mr. Lee said, “Danny Ferry should be Executive of the Year.”

He was half-smiling as he spoke, but it got me to thinking: Why shouldn’t the man who assembled the team with the NBA’s second-best record be considered? Never mind that he has been on a leave of absence since Sept. 12. All these players were in place by then. Does the NBA have a rule that its Executive of the Year has to be a fully functioning executive throughout the entire season? Would any professional league have thought such a rule was even necessary?

It’s true that much of Ferry’s heavy lifting — signing Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll after letting Josh Smith leave, hiring Mike Budenholzer, matching Milwaukee’s offer sheet to Jeff Teague — was done in the summer of 2013. The favorite for this season’s award is probably Bob Myers of Golden State, which has the league’s best record. (Washington’s Ernie Grunfeld would be in the discussion, too.)

Regarding personnel, the Warriors didn’t make a major move last summer. Their coup came by stealing coach Steve Kerr from Phil Jackson and the Knicks. Still, the Warriors were 51-31 last season under Mark Jackson; the Hawks were 38-44. A lot of folks expected big things from Golden State. Nobody expected this from the Hawks.

And here’s the weird part: The Hawks wound up not signing free agent Luol Deng, who was described in a report that Ferry read aloud as having “some African in him.” That characterization led Ferry to take the leave of absence, and the GM remains in limbo, waiting to see if the Hawks’ new owner — whoever that might be, whenever the sale is consummated (assuming it ever is) — wishes to retain his services.

Deng signed with Miami, where he’s the third-leading scorer (averaging 14.3 points) on a 20-25 team. But imagine if the Hawks had landed Deng and installed him at small forward ahead of Carroll. Would this exquisitely balanced starting five have been quite so exquisite without its best perimeter defender? Probably not.

It's no question that he should be exec of the year. But since he is on hiatus, IMO he's not eligible. but whoever the new owners are, they would be foolish not to keep him onboard. People are selling out Phillips Arena to see the Hawks. I'm going Friday to the Blazers game. Ferry cracked to code for generating interest in a team that despite previous winning seasons, had apathetic viewership.

What he said wasn't even that bad. Loul Deng does have "some African in him"...in fact he has quite a bit. Would this have even been a story if he was joking that Dirk Nowitzki had "some German in him"?

No, but the Atlanta Spirit make the Kardashians seem like the Brady Bunch by comparison.

Getting a bit closer. Just beat a good Portland team 105-99 to run streak to 18 in a row. One of their starters did not play tonight, and his replacement hurt his calf 2 minutes into the game. Bench came through. Impressive, and very un-Atlanta-like, to say the least. Wonder how long they can keep this up?

At this point I would actually like them to lose. They've proven they have a set-up that works and bodies capable of contributing on both ends of the court. There's really only one more test for them and that is beating the Cavs with LeBron's vision coming together. I'm more concerned about health at this point and I don't want the Hawks to try and preserve the streak at the expense of an injury.

The record is 33, set by the 1971-2 LA Lakers.

Ended at 19. Franchise record for the hawks, and NBA-record 17 wins in a single month, which is interesting that one had not been done before. Function of schedules I would guess.

Hawks will have to start a new streak. Next three games are Washington, Golden State (current best record in NBA) and Memphis. All strong teams. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back and work through this gauntlet. (Aside: funny how these three teams now compose a 'gauntlet' for anyone.)

I was hoping ATL would still be on the streak for tonight's game against the Wizards and also be looking ahead to GS and thus not taking the Wiz seriously. I don't think that's going to be the case and fully expect the Hawks to blow the doors off the Wizards again (they won by 31 in early January) tonight.

After a loss to the Pelicans to break the streak at 19, Hawks beat Washington and tonight, claimed the best record in the NBA by beating the previous top team: Golden sate.

After not following the Hawks in 20 years, I am jumping on the bandwagon (or have been for a few weeks).

RE: Atlanta Hawks for sale
If the Hawks can pull off 31 wins in a row, they will break the Chicago Bulls' record of 72-10 set during the 1995-96 season. The Hawks already have 9 losses so 1 more prevents them from breaking the record, and 2 more prevents them from tying it.

No other team has ever won more than 69 games, so even a 70-12 season (3 more losses) would be noteworthy. One of the two squads to finish at 69-13 was actually the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls.

There is no need for the Hawks to chase that record. Honestly I almost wish they didn't get the All Star recognition so they could use the off time to rest.

I will be observing them with a lot of interest in their last 30 games. Does Budenholzer pull a Popovich and just rest guys on random nights to save fresh legs or does he go for a juggernaut w/l record? Since he is a Pop protege, I imagine he'll lean towards the former.
