Authorities say the officer was inside of his home in the Atrium Apartments on Meriwether Drive when a shot shattered the outer pane of his dining room’s sliding glass door. It happened just before 2 p.m.

No one was injured, and the officer was able to catch a glimpse of the alleged shooter as he ran off.

Authorities are now searching for a black man with a dark complexion, short hair, and a dark green jacket. K9 officers attempted to track the suspect for almost an hour, but were unable to find him.

It’s the second recent incident involving the Durham Police Department. On Christmas evening, an officer was sitting in his car writing a report in the area Lakeland Street and Truman Street around 10 p.m. when two men came up behind the vehicle. When the officer got out to speak to them, one of the men pulled out a pistol and started shooting. One bullet hit the officer’s car, but he was not wounded. Those men have not been captured.
