Yeah, and I wish the g'ment would nail their butt to the wall for lying during the delta-northwest merger.
Apparently Cohen, among others, bought that one hook, line and sinker.

NWA used to treat me great, DL not so much. It was fine right after the merger, but keeps getting worse. Even if you discount the de-hub and the flight cuts, delta treats people like crap unless you spend 25k a year on airfare. they keep cutting benefits they told people would be there like same day change, Economy Comfort, and unlimited domestic upgrades. I need to decide if I am flying AA or United next year, it won't be delta.

I've never understood all the hate for Delta. If Memphis isn't originating enough passengers then why should they keep all these direct flights?
Who exactly is missing out here it 90% of the seats on flights leaving Memphis were from folks making connecting flights? It's not like we can't catch a quick flight to Atlanta and then fly literally anywhere in the world.
The fact that Delta has shut down major operations in Memphis has opened the door for other airlines that previously couldn't get in. We now actually have some small measure of competition so why all the hate for Delta?

All the more reason I say they should just leave altogether. As they have reduced their service here things have improved as far as better options go. I'd pick SW to Chicago over Delta any day.

Most of the people bitching are probably the ones who fly once every three years. I've had 18 flights on Delta since September and have not one complaint. Frontier on the other hand was a complete **** show when I flew them to Seattle in August. American is decent. I don't care much for United.

I always seem to find the United Flight to Chicago for whatever time I need.
I fly about 10 times a year and I haven't even flown Delta this year. They can just go, I'm over it.
Frontier and Southwest are awful, but they're half as much so that tempers my expectations.

no doubt...I hate Delta
that said, all these airlines are making profits now so they're not letting up.....
The luggage fees? Unheard of even 10 years ago.
Paying for food? Even snacks? Unheard of even 10 years ago.
And my least favorite......you pay out the wazoo to book a flight....yet on at least one leg of your connection, you don't have a seat assignment.....but....you have to remind yourself to go online, 24 hours before departure and select a seat yourself....except the only seats available have an upcharge because they are considered "premium" seats more so than the rest, usually due to 1 inch more of leg room...and then, you find out you can't do it because the flight is deemed under "airport control".....so you have to physically go to the kiosk or front desk to get your seat assignment
This stuff is a racket and the gov't should do something about it. These airlines are now reaping the rewards of tremendously lower oil prices and are doing nothing to pass that on to their consumers.
And Heaven forbid if your flight is delayed or cancelled altogether.........in the old good days, airlines would work to reschedule you to get you where you're going.....now you are hosed until that airline's next flight.........have to stay overnight? Good for you, pay for it out of your own pocket. Because our flight was cancelled due to weather, a situation we can't control.

Maybe you should share your experiences and contribute to the thread. If not, I've got enough travel stories for you to lie and say a few are yours.

Being rude and dismissive of people's opinions is never cool, especially when tooting your own horn in the process.

Why is it deltas fault this is a crappy market?
United owns the market to Chicago anyway.

The market isn't their fault.
But the lie to Congress in order to complete the merger is completely their fault.
Why didn't they just say on the front end that if the merger went through they would shut down the Memphis hub?
Because the merger would not have been approved. So, they lied to Congress (is there a crime in that somewhere?).

Delta broke promises to Memphis says Congressman Cohen
Quote:When the merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines was under consideration in 2008, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., was skeptical of the deal. While noting that the Memphis Airport Authority and the Memphis Chamber of Commerce backed it, Cohen sought some assurances from those seeking to implement it.
Quote:Cohen: "The Amsterdam flight would remain, I presume?"
Anderson: "Yes."
Quote:Anderson was quoted saying Memphis would be an integral hub of the merged airline: "The consolidation is about addition, not subtraction." The article was one of many from that time noting that, "Anderson said the move could even bring more flights to the city, especially international flights, considering the long list of worldwide cities now served by the two companies."

It is sad, but I find Delta's customer service to be much better than AA or United. So I've been doing my business on Delta.

they massively helped create the crappy market by trying to rip off customers for years. For years they were ridiculously high in their fares simply b/c they could be. This drove more and more people to fly out of other cities nearby.
Many other issues affected the market as well, but after their antics to say they have no blame in this situation isn't truthful.

So we're mad because we don't have a nonstop flight to Amsterdam?
Ok.
The merger was six years ago. Are they locked into promises despite a completely different market?
