Frank, excellent ballhandler, floor general, mediocre shooter, maybe average

Thanks for your report Mr. big Blue. Seems to have just floated by a lot of folks. It's nice to have someone speak on this board who goes to practices and has followed the team closely for years. Hayes sounds like a great pick up. So we have multiple options at many positions and who knows, we may just pick up someone else too during the summer.

Thanks for posting.

I would be curious as to whether Mr. BB has ever seen Haynes play since he's been at a JC for the last 2 years

Rest assured. He has seen him.

at this point I'm convinced that all the Juco guys are going to have flaws. even Kah, who we've been waiting on for the last decade is probably not going to blow anyone away (although I suppose he has the best chance to really be good). as long as they can compliment the guys we already have I'll be happy.

Some are never satisfied, however I feel pretty good about this season. Coach Jones in Richmond at the caravan looked much more relaxed and confident about his team.

OK, did not know they were already on campus. Glad they are working on their games.

He signed an excellent class during the fall period. But we lost one of those during the Spring signing period, which has been an epic failure so far. Other schools seem to be signing players.

I have a good feeling about what we have, but I also would like to have a complete team for a change. It's been a while.

Folks, please relax about the ball handling situation. Ahmad is an excellent point guard and a very exciting player to watch. His vision and playmaking abilities were very visible last year. He played like a freshman at times but if you can't see that we are in very good hands with him, then I do not know what to tell you. Behind him, JJ will find someone that is very capable of handling the ball. Even if there isn't someone right now, you can be sure that the coaching staff will get them to that point.

pretty much exactly what I think, too. 04-cheers

Not good.

We signed no one for the Spring Period, and lost recruits to Kilgore JC, Hampton, and Nevada.

Hope the staff has something up their sleeve...

Not going to happen. Have to take advantage of having the Stiths and either hope to move up or hire a brand name coach that can do more than Xs and Os or this will continue to be the status quo. Right now the recruiting, bloodline aside, is no better than Blaine's.

Agreed. We started the recruiting year with a bang, but it sure fizzled out in a hurry. We'll be deeper in the paint, but I'm just not sure where are perimeter scoring will come from. Hopefully, B.J. Stith measures up to his 4-star billing. We need at least one more sniper. We already know what Jordan Baker can give us. Who else? Caver? Haynes? Green, Fields?

Bottom line, we lose a ton of scoring on the perimeter, and despite having 4 open scholarships (two of which are a year old), we haven't signed anyone. We were awful from 3-point range last season, and I don't see in marked improvement this year (Hope I'm wrong and one of the new guys will step it up.)

Seems like the same team to me, minus our two best scorers. Perhaps another Vegas run? Need to do better than that.

I'm think we will be fine and compete next season. But you are right, that is contingent on the new bigs panning out, no suspensions/dismissals, no injuries, and BJ living up to his ACC recruiting. It is further down the road I am more worried about. We can't even fill a roster.

How the heck does a upper mid-major division one basketball team with lots of potential, a great arena and a good fan base not fill it's quota of scholarships? You would think two east coast guys would rather play for Old Dominion with the talent we have on this squad, that play all the way across the country for a team no better and likely worse than ODU will be. I just don't get it. Is Coach Stith too old to have any more kids? We may need them.

I also forgot to mention that we were out-recruited for two Virginia high school players by Conference mates Rice and Louisiana Tech.
