I agree, talent-wise. But the problem is that our new players are going to be malnourished, because that awful Mike Rhoades keeps on eating their lunch.

My biggest concern, again, is depth. Unless something happens this summer, we have an incomplete team with walkons playing a major role.
The recruits the JJ has brought in are good, just not enough of them.

Walkon's playing a major role? The kid from PA will see the court as much as that last kid Martin Shaw did. He is a practice player. Travis Fields is a multiple time STATE PLAYER OF THE YEAR. So what if he isn't using a scholly this year. That's a great thing actually. Gives coach Jones options this summer. We can recruit for 2016 till school starts.
We have some great players coming, PT is gonna be tough to get for many as it is. And they just might red-shirt Green.

So, why do you think JJ decided to make Fields a walk on? We surely aren't lacking available scholarships.

I hope so. But it's troubling that we have trouble filling scholarships, though we should be glad that JJ isn't filling them just to fill them.

Maybe he just made the walk-on offer to keep scholarships open just in case he had a chance to grab someone else. Maybe Fields will be on scholarship in the fall. We're not likely to know, and frankly, if the kid can play, we shouldn't care if he's a scholarship player or a walk-on.
As for walk-ons playing a major role, what other walk-on is going to see the court? Sure, maybe, if something crazy happens the Stith boys end up as walk-ons. Does it really matter who is paying the bill, if the player can play?

The Stith boys are the only two walk-ons who will be in the 2-deep at any position. Hopefully they don't hold us back too much.

I expect to see Travis Fields play 4-5 min a game if he doesn't redshirt.

We don't have a back up point guard, or more importantly anyone to push Caver and fill that spot if he does not step up this season. That is a problem. We have a very unproven PG and no back up.

I think the backups we have now (freshman) are unproven. Caver (in limiting minutes) proved to (at least me) that he can play. I'm not worried about him as a starter. he just needs to stay healthy. if that doesn't happen, then yes, we have a problem.

Wasn't Xavier Green recruited to compete for PG next year or be the backup if Caver wins the job? We definitely have 2 PGs.

Yes we do...we have one that will certainly see the court and is a big PG. Randy Haynes - JUCO transfer will give us quality minutes at the point if needed.

Thus, without injuries or Fields being a better player than we realize, we won't see significant minutes from walk ons?

I think that's the concern among us.We don't have a proven PG. Green SAYS he can play the point; I haven't heard that from any of our coaches (in fairness, I haven't asked). I thought Haynes was a slashing, scoring guard more than a setup, bring it up guy. I have no idea what position Fields played, or how they handled their backcourt, in HS. If Jones said he was a steal, I'll buy that because he didn't have to say anything, let alone volunteer that.
I just totally believe they are not done exploring all avenues, and things will pop up throughout the summer in this climate where literally 1,000 kids are transferring.
And I understand why Jordan Baker is the forgotten man, but he does give us another ball handler.

Jordan is a defensive specialist. My hope is that he would be the 6th man. We don't need to be playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end with our starters.

We don't have to have a Trey Freeman. All 4 NCAA trips from the Blaine era were with game managers, not superstars. Drew Williamson and Darius James. Caver showed me enough last year to believe he can be at least as effective as them. If Green is better - bonus. I am more worried about the new bigs panning out and BJ living up to his 4-star ACC recruiting than I am at PG. Because if that happens, our PG situation will be sufficient.

Drew Williamson was a fantastic point guard. Darius did a fantastic job with his abilities and won a bunch of games, but Drew was a truly gifted ball player. Probably a better passer and floor manager than Trey, but Trey could shoot a whole lot better. Drew and Trey are definitely my two favorites though. But then again, Twardzick was before my time.
