that would be my guess too. doesn't mean he can't play or won't do well, but he looks pretty small in those videos.

Thats the reason. Many schools just don't want to deal with small players. There is a guy in DC named Chris Lykes that is probably the best player in the area, but due to his size, isn't getting looked at as heavily.

The kid is special but only 5-8.

Yeah and Heinicke was too short to play quarterback. That seemed to work out pretty well.

That's it 35!
Plus, he might just be bringing his two team mates we want with him. Its a win all around. Plus, I bet we bring in another point guard, like SOON .

It certanly doesn't. Tyler Ulis, one of the nation's best PG's is listed at 5'9". I'm not suggesting Fields is the same caliber of player, merely that a shorter PG can definitely be very successful, even at the highest levels. It is true that such players often get overlooked, but sometimes that provides them with the extra desire to succeed.

He isn't costing a scholarship, he's being given a chance to earn one.
I'm fine with that and I think he will!

Coach Jones played two years at UVA. with Ricky Stokes 5 feet 10 inches tall at the most. Always need a good point guard that can break down pressing teams and make free throws. If he can make a few outside shots that is a bonus. Plus he is a winner.

I remember U of Washington had a kid that was something like 5'7" years back that literally carried the team to success. I forget his name.

Anybody remember J J Barea? He used to torch ODU pretty good. I believe he is listed at 6 foot, but not sure he is that tall. Pretty fair ball player.

Isaiah Thomas, who is now killing it in the league.

Forgot about him. I was thinking Nate Robinson. Both fit the bill.

Trey Porter, Randy Hayes and Travis Fields. I remember when we had two in Mario Mullen and Odell Hodge ! I like what that article Punk posted has to say about Fields toughness. Can't teach that! And that his HS coach thinks he will be special due to his hard work habits.
I think we got a steal Monarch fans. And for those who say he is short. He is taller then the star point guard for Kentucky. You can't measure "want to"!
I believe Brandon Stith was a player of the year for the state in his division as well. Am not sure about his brother.

Surprised no one has mentioned Saah Nimley. That guy is 5'8 and was fantastic to watch in the NIT game against Chucktown Southern last year.

Saah Nimley played Curry-esque that game with his range. Mosley kept up, but he couldn't hit from nearly as far out. Saah was nowhere near the ceiling but he shot the lights out.

I don't know why no one has yet commented on Chris Lykes. I like the guy, he's got so many qualities one can easily check off for a potential recruit that I'm baffled he is not being looked at seriously. He appears to be exceptional in creating his own shot, can bang long balls, has good defensive skills, etc., etc. About the only thing you can't possibly teach him to develop is "height", but as others have noted, with heart and great skill set, he will do fine. I bet he will turn into a special player and I'd like to see ODU go after him.

According to verbalcommits.com ODU has offered Lykes, along with 14 others, including Richmond, Georgetown, Notre Dame, VCU, Miami, Villanova, etc.
