Absolutely. Unless Evans is a top ball handler, Xavier might be the best ball handler on the team standing at 6'6-6'7.

I think I remember reading an article about Tre Evans where he said he, too, expects to come in and compete for a starting spot. Specifically, the quote went something like this, "With Freeman graduating, I expect to go in there and be the starting PG."

That 18 points was the most unforced, unselfish, in control 18 I have seen in a very long time. I really don't think he took over 10 shots. Obviously not counting free throws.

Now more about his game.

He has a smooth jump shot that looks like it will translate to the collegiate level. I think he had somewhere near 15-19 points and it was really quiet. He is not super flashy (I know the layup lines) and looks so in control at all times. Probably could have had near a double double with points and assists if his teammates finished layups and hit some open shots. In the first half he was more off the ball and atlantic shores was playing strictly zone and his teammates were not finding him. In the second half they moved him to the point and he took control and was finding open teammates every time down the floor. Free throws were clean and looks like a 75% free throw shooter. His ball handling is off the charts. He also looks to be a beast of a rebounder for his size.

Weaknesses: He needs to put on weight. That is his only weakness. Could not tell if he was a good defender or not because they pressed the entire game.

We have a superstar in the making. Tre Evans deserves all of the hype he gets but I am telling you that Xavier Green is someone we should all be extremely excited about. MAN WHAT A FREAK ATHLETE!!!! And so polished.

They also have a guard that stands at 6'3 that can absolutely ball. Clevante and I couldn't make out the last name. Should be a target.
It is Clevon Greene. No he is not a target......maybe for Marshall or JUCO.
The only problem with HS players that transition to college that think they will start for day 1, is that the talent level jumps up so much they often don't realize how good others are. Then when they don't get playing time they become trouble makers, they fold and look to transfer under the pressure, or they Start working harder. Many need to realize that it is a process and it just doesn't happen over night.

Got it. The Marshall & JUCO comment speaks loudly.

He's gotta think there is more there than a career club trillion member. He had him go to prep school for a year and didn't burn the redshirt when Brandan got hurt. That's gotta say something, right?

It's common. And it is done by a lot of coaches. I believe wilder dresses his redshirts

He dresses because he is eligible to play. Colber, Stith, and Porter are ineligible to play basketball this season. The redshirt is not granted until the season is over with. This is pretty common around college basketball. He's fully eligible and the coaches could of had a situation arise where they would have thought about using him. Very unlikely now that the season is almost over.

I wasn't so concerned about the fact he was dressing, my question is how good is he? If he didn't play while Brandon was out, is it safe to conclude he's more of a project than major contributor?

You can't have 13 star, starters anyway. He seems to be a roll player.

Outside of the extra body, he wouldn't have help in the void in Brandan's position. Carver will be more of 3/4.

I foresee him being a quality roll player as well.

Carver is on the practice floor before every game working on his shot. He is there at 5:30. ( 7pm game). He appears to have a nice jumper/shooting touch. The coaching staff is working to convert him to a 3. In HS he played the post. I hear he is a good post defender but a little undersized. I hear he has the outside shot for a three but not the ball handling skills/footwork yet to make the transition. My guess is he will be a contributor for us in the future.

I like Carver and we need guys like him on this team; he's got size, great basketball pedigree like the Stiths (2nd generation monarch), good student, a solid player. He’s getting lost in the discussion right now but he will find his own way. A lot of people said Henderson would never contribute when he was redshirting but we all know how that turned out.

This is my question on this one.

The flip side of that is that we REALLY needed a guy like him this year, and we have several guys like him starting next year. If he wasn't good enough to play when we are very shorthanded at his position, how will he find the floor in the future?

Then why didn't Talley dress last year?

I think if Stith would of had a season ending injury or something crazy like that we would of seen Carver. Shortage of bodies this year.. Last year there was no way Talley was going to play. I think this year, they said "we would like to redshirt Carver". Last year they said "Talley is definitely red shirting". That's the conclusion I come up with.

I think that is spot-on analysis.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
Again, I would stop worrying so much about weather Carver will see a lot of time next year and be a superstar or whatever. We have a great recruiting class coming in. He will most likely be a roll player but can help us in lots of ways. They are trying to mold him into a position he has never played before, moving from Center to a small forward. It may take several years to do it but the coaches must think it will be worth all the effort down the road. May not need but so much from him next season. By all accounts he's a hard worker, that should be a big help. If you ever read the blog he used to do you could tell is was really smart cat to boot. I'm betting he will be a big help in a couple seasons.

Tre Evans' team, Edmond North, OK is ranked #16 in the country by USA Today. In the playoff game last Sat. Evans scored 25, had 7 rebounds, and 8 assists.

FWIW, Was just doing a little research on some of our recruits. According to 247 Sports: Xavier Green was also offered by Cincinnati, East Carolina,George Mason, JMU and Providence among some others.
Not a bad list there.

We also know that Tre Evans was originally committed to Oklahoma State before changing his mind.
