After a season in the weight room I bet he looks much more athletic. In that video he looks like a hs kid with a really quick release. Looks smooth and fairly effortless. I like!

Although he spent some years in the wilderness of the Patriot League, he still posesses everything that got him to the fairly high points he reached both as a player and a coach at UVA. I think he knows the higher caliber kids are within his reach at ODU in a way that few if any previous ODU coaches have. I'm guessing that to some extent recruits can sense that. I believe that is why our program's ceiling got raised as a result of hiring Jeff Jones.

That's pretty disrespectful to BT. You also have no way of knowing any of that. Probably best if you leave the personal attacks of former coaches off these message boards.

I think a major difference between BT and JJ is what is generally referred to as gravitas. BT was a down-home kind of guy, who while tough, and straight forward, never seemed to have the same coaching chops as JJ. To use a boxing analogy, I believe JJ to be a smooth prizefighter who worked his way up the ranks, and is a true tactician, whereas BT was more of a street brawler, who almost always had a punchers chance.

Well put. I think that's a very accurate statement.

I was worried about jj's time "in the wilderness" as well and how quickly he would be able to get back to that UVA level, if he was able at all, at least from a recruiting standpoint.

I never questioned his actual coaching ability, the guy has been a winner everywhere he has gone.

Now that he's recruiting at a high level once again, the sky is the limit.

I have edited my post so that it contains only positives regarding Jeff Jones, and has no mention of past coaches by name. I realize BT did some great things for the ODU bball program, and meant him no disrespect.

We could have used a little bit of that toughness last season. Maybe that would have pushed into the NCAAs, a place BT took us four times.

I think you just ask the kid: Are you interested? You know us, know the school, been to our games. If there's no interest, thanks and we'll move on. I thought the fact that they've signed what amounts to 3 guards takes care of Mr. Coleman.
