Nothing was deleted. However, I unapproved the posts in question for the other mods to weigh in. Reason being is that negative personal comments were being made about a potential student athlete with no direct evidence of the cause, only supposition.

If ODUalum and Cr8n disagree, we'll approve the posts again. However, in the interest of conservatism and observing the AUP of this board, I made the decision for the posts to be sequestered until the other mods had a chance to review.

I agree with this. Even just speculation of a personal nature directed at a 17 yr old is over the line.

If this is the case, then please make sure you are consistent in applying this standard. It seems this criteria was arbitrarily applied to one 17 year old simply because of his status as a possible highly regarded recruit. Inferences about a persons character are drawn everyday based on their words and actions. It is reasonable, though not always correct.

This time, I actually did see the posts in question. They (at least those from the poster who started the sub-thread) were irresponsible in the extreme.

Inferences are okay, IF based on actual, knowable facts. (E.g., after several prior incidents, a player enters another student's residence and gets into an altercation -- that is a fair basis on which to draw an inference that the student-athlete in question has anger issues.) The inferences drawn by this particular poster had no such basis. His assumptions may be correct or they may be incorrect. He has no way of knowing.

I hope that these posts remain removed.

In any event, well done mods! I regret only that your correct action is now being drawn into question.

Tre Evans is a solid recruit, nice size and already has a D1 body. Glad he's got a pretty weekend to visit our campus. Hope the staff can get a commitment from Tre this weekend.

Wait, wait, wait...my character judgement was based on a reoccurring series of FACTS and it was directly related to his ability/inability to be a contributor for ODU. You can disagree all you want with my conclusion. What you can't disagree with is the FACT that the kid will commit/attend six schools in four years. I don't see how acknowledging that there might be a flaw with this recruit is any different than someone else watching a video and making the assumption that a different recruit might be too slow/unathletic to play D-I basketball. The point of recruiting is to find kids that can and will play. Isn't it part of our "job" as fans and members of an internet message board to comment and discuss aspects of a recruit that might inhibit their success?

Also, I've seen much, much worse personal attacks on players, coaches, and fellow fans on here go completely unaddressed. I'm surprised that a reasonable and fact based assumption about a recruit would be addressed with such heavy handed censorship.

Regardless of the facts you present, none of the choices this kid has made are any reflection whatsoever on his character. I don't care for the game of character assassination, particularly when those targeted are in no position to shield themselves from their assailant. Please move on.

It is not the FACTS that are in dispute here. It is the very irresponsible and unpleasant conclusion that you drew from them, and then saw fit to publish on a public discussion forum.

Running my business frequently requires me to work late, sometimes without much advance notice. If my wife had your lack of basic human compassion, she might jump to the conclusion that I am cheating on her -- based on no other FACT than that my work requirements differ from a normal 9-to-5 arrangement. That is the equivalent unfair and unsubstantiated conclusion that you reached, based solely on a set of FACTS that did not fit what you consider to be the normal mold for student athletes.

This is not a debate about FACTS, because neither you nor I have the slightest insight into this recruit's family situation or motives. You, however, opted to draw and publicly spout the worst conceivable conclusion. Shame on you.

Okay back to the recruiting portion of this program... I think we should have a good shot at him. Look at our staff, I would want my kid to play for someone that really knows the game and that's the advantage we have with Coach Jones' staff.

One thing you can see when you're around the current team, is they are a great bunch of young men. I think Jeff has a very good understanding of the quality of the players he extends offers to. The chemistry of this team is as good as any Monarch team we ever have had and I don't see that changing. The staff understands how fragile it is to maintain.

Back on track. If this kid can play and the coaches want him, then I'm all in. Let's get him to commit before he leaves. Too bad he wasn't on campus last weekend.

I am really confused.

Other than a couple of posts I deleted that implied that Shuler Bentley wasn't working hard enough/and or had an attitude, and a couple of conspiracy posts that were almost non sequitur, the QB discussion was largely based on observation and established data.

People were in an uproar.

Every year when discussions turn to basketball, we have players chided for work ethic, coaches accused of malfeasance, and suggestions of bad attitudes and other subjective character assessments. Some of you guys get absolutely indignant because we delete those posts.

Huge! Congrats to Tre on a great decision and to the staff for another major addition.

This is a great get. Glad to see we got a commit during the visit. It'll be interesting to see Caver and Evans competing for the PG spot. Not to look ahead, but next years team could look like this:
