Seems a kid would think he could come to ODU and make it "bigger". Is VT "bigger" in hoops because its in the ACC? Theres a good argument against that. I would think a player who was recruited hard by ODU for years would much prefer to come to the better team, better program and better coaches who have shown him a lot of love rather than be won over by the letters ACC at the last minute at VT for example. But it just doesn't seem to work that way. I'd feel the same way as a lower level recruit too. Id rather play for UNC Ashville for example, if they had recruited me for years and treated me right, rather than get swept away by ODU at the last minute.

Blaine got sick of it and stopped recruiting known talent. All he went after at the end was athleticism, defense and size. Seemed he figured he had a better shot of teaching a kid offense than convincing high level talent to spurn the last minute wooing of the ACC/BE/SEC. Of course, that didn't work out so well either.

Its a lot more simple than you all are making it out to be. Until we make it to the second weekend of the tournament, it is a longshot at best to beat out a p5 school, and until we have won games consistently in the tournament, landing guys like this is going to be improbable. Its just the way it is. Everybody thinks they are good enough to start anywhere, and to a high school kid, doing that against the best teams, and the best players night in and night out on national TV is going to trump playing for a school in CUSA that his friends haven't heard of against teams he hasn't heard of on Cox 11.

JJ Matthews just committed to Pat Skerry at Towson. Pretty monster get for them all things considered.

Matthews is dealing with an ACL I believe?

It seems like all of our eggs are in the Maliek White basket. Maybe Jeff Dowtin but JJ needs to get one of these PGs.

I think I read that about Matthews as well. Really good get for Skerry at TU though. We definitely need a high caliber PG commit soon.

We could use a commitment at any position soon. What in the world is going on I wonder?

I would imagine other coaches are bringing up the cancer angle. That's just an opinion though. Recruiting is a cut-throat game.

That's what I heard as well. I know that a lot of high-majors put the brakes on once he got injured.

Same story, different year. I can see the logic in picking Illinois over ODU. How does one come to the conclusion that Towson is a better pick? National exposure? Current state of the program? Historical success of the program? Closer to home? Academics? Parent coach?

This fits none of the above. WTF is going on here?

It makes it a little tough to sign a bunch of guys in 2016 when you have transfers, BJ Stith, Trey Porter, and Austin Colbert.

I know BJ will have 3 years of eligibility left, but what about the other two?

Trey only played one year at Mason, so he's got three years. Austin will have two years remaining.

Is it not possible that with the ACL injury the staff backed off and Mathews took the best offer still on the table, Townson?

Does this tell us, we have lost we have lost Malik White also? It appears all our known recruits (at any position are getting slim)

Not necessarily. It tells me that the coaching staff is doing everything thay can in an attempt to bring in a high caliber PG. White may indeed choose to go elsewhere, and we can't afford to put all of our hopes on him.

The 2017 PGs are impressive as well...Pitt/Bacote, we could always hold one for them but it hurts to try so hard for a 2016 PG and not seal the deal. Hoping we can lock in Green and Sheppard as future off the ball guards.
