2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
EYBL is in Lexington, Gauntlet in Indianapolis and tournaments in Louisville and Pittsburgh as well. I imagine Coach Stith is going to hit many of these.

CUSA could have easily been a 2 bid league this year if we had won a game in the tournament.

Guess it depends on how you define consistent. I think we have proven to be at the very least a 1 every 4 year type of team, if not better. We have 4 in the last 10 years, and this year were first 4 out (pretty darn close).

VT has 1 in last 10 years. I think even if Buzz can get them playing WAY better, they are still going to struggle for a bid. Like I said earlier, yes ACC is a 6-8 bid league, but 6 of those bids are almost a certain lock at this point every year (UNC, Duke, UVA, Syracuse, Louisville, ND).

That leaves 1 maybe 2 bids for the "other" teams. So they are going to fight with NC State, Miami, FSU, Pitt every year for those other 1 or 2 bids. Right now all 4 of those teams are ahead of VT. That doesn't even account for Wake, Clemson, GT, and BC which aren't exactly "bad" programs.

Where do you see consistent success in that environment? I just can't see it happening.

A friend of mine's son is playing in Gauntlet--6'8" with an outside jump shot. I thought he was a sophomore, but I think he's reclassifying and changing schools.

I'm pretty sure we offered him like seven months ago and VC is just late to update.

I know we had interest in him for a while, might have offered. It's hard to tell sometimes, many come with we want to see you play or develop a little more.

Can you stop revealing that recruiting in real life is more difficult than in video games?!

If you offer a kid and he accepts, you sign him. The staff would not extend an offer unless they wanted him. Before the acceptance if the staff had offered someone else that had accepted and it led staff to believe they no longer needed the other kids services they would notify the kid.

Several years back Reggie Bassett and Cal Bowdler were both being recruited at ODU. Bassett accepted first and the staff expected they would lose Bowdler. However Bowdler said he still wanted to come to ODU. A pleasantly surprised Coach Capel signed him.

You also have to remember, these "offers" are usually being reported from the player and may not always be accurate.

These kids also know where they are on the pecking order and an offer is not binding on our part, just like a verbal isn't binding on theirs.
