I agree 100%. Or a museum. Or a historical landmark.

But to protest the wrong telling of the story? Pathetic.

I'll bet you a hundred dollars that the percent of the kids who "left" to protest were around 20% and on top of that probably some constructive learning happened after they went. You would be amazed what can happen when 20% of the rabble rousers are off and what then can actually be taught that day. It would be a damn near impossible situation there to educate kids. Are any of you familiar with Maslow's hierarchy of needs?

http://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html

Safety is one of the basic needs. The mind becomes consumed if these basic needs are not met. I'm telling you education can not happen or is SEVERELY RESTRICTED with a kid who needs are not being met. This kids are so fragile mentally that an issue like this wipes them out. I'm positive these kids are not splitting the atom this week.

Impossible situation if you want my opinion. Probably the best thing for those emotional kids to do is protest why the ones who actually want to learn are in the actual classroom.

Try to look at it from the educators viewpoint.

Everything you point to here is a clear indication that forced government education is a failure, and should be eliminated.

Mach, are you allowed to take your students on ANY "field trip" off the school grounds without first getting parental permission? Are you allowed to just load them up on a bus and take them anywhere without first getting parental permission?

My guess is no as it protects the school district and teachers legally if anything should happen while off school grounds.

While I don't agree with them getting out of school to go protest, if parental permission had been obtained prior to the event, at least they wouldn't have left themselves and the school hanging out there legally.

..........and Mach, you know and so do I - ask 95% of all high school kids if they'd like to get out of class to do almost anything and they are up for it like white on rice - no strong convictions are required to "get out of class".

The school or teachers didn't organize this. The kids left on their own. Read the article. Do you want to taze the kids? Shoot em? Honestly I want to know what the resident "know it better than them" educators would do in this circumstance? I am waiting? You have twenty percent of the rabble rousers chanting it up? They bust out of school? Civil unrest? What would you do?

From the article:

One mother, who stood by as teenagers marched down the road near her house, said she had just gotten a call from her daughter, who attends one of the participating high schools.

“She called me and said, ‘Mommy, the teachers are letting us out to protest!” the mother recalled. “And I was just thinking, I hadn’t heard anything about that.”

At least perceptually, it doesn't sound much like the teachers or administrators did much to try and curtail the kids leaving the school. In fact, staff went and walked with the kids and then dispatched buses to pick them up and return them to school.

Almost sounds as if the schools were participatory.

Ok, Mach - these kids due any punishment for just leaving school grounds on their own?

You have one teenager whose out with the group and you're taking her word as gospel.

Lordy Lordy Betty's forty........ I'm asking you what to do here. Are you going to punish these kids Creb? What will be there punishment? Now remember that can't miss too much time or it's going to show on your district report card. Do you want to suspend them? What is your punishment?

If any of these little helpers are on an IEP good luck with that too. Unfortunately the mob can rule here. I really want to know how you guys would handle these young minds.

Get them out of the classroom led by simpleton SJWs, and get them working.

Real work has a way of bringing people close to reality.

Get them out of the classrooms? How?

Get them to work? How?

Meanwhile your report card is taking a hit. How do you cover the standards while they are out? What are you doing to ensure they complete their mandates?

You would be an absolute failure in a school setting Torch, but we all know this.

Next.

Suspend them or put them in detention or whatever. This isn't complicated. If they walked out of class they obviously broke some rule so they should pay the consequences.

You can't suspend a kid on an IEP. Looks bad on your district report card.

The teachers let those students out and even walked out with them to protest. Teachers should be fired and studends should face some sort of disciplinary action.

You have no proof that the teachers let the kids out. READ!! It's fundamental.
