Glad to have The Mullet here! Always great to have a cynical devil's advocate around.

Beating VMI and UNCG are wins of course but I don't think you can say they were upsets or even quality wins.

There is no way you can say just yet who is the better coach. We don't know yet just how good Keatts is. But I do like what I see so far.

Your response has nothing to do with what I posted. I said we don't know for sure how good a coach Keatts is right now.

Sounds like he was ripping you for even SUGGESTING that Keatts could be a better coach than Bob McKillop.

RE: Davidson thread
Bob McKillop is a very respected coach. And, he has proven it year after year. Just last night Davidson crushed UCF at UCF. Davidson is good once again and you have to look at their coach. I do really like Coach Keatts though and think that we have a really good one. Kids love to play in Keatts system.

My hope is that UNCW can play well and that Dylan can actually play and be effective. If you get a bad sprain, it's really tough to come back from in a week and he rolled it again the other night. Hawks really need him with the kind of numbers that Davidson rolls out and they can really shoot it.

RE: Davidson thread
Davidson devastated UCF last night 95-69. Gibbs scored 35 points on 5-7 three pointers and Kalinoski scored 25 on 5-10 three pointers. Davidson shot 52.5% from the field, and hit 13-34 three pointers. Also, outrebounded UCF 42-26.

This is going to be a tough game, and with that kind of 3 point shooting, they're going to stretch the defense and make it hard to grab rebounds.

Davidson came into the game ranked 4th in the nation in 3 point shots made per game. They are ranked #16 in ppg at 86.7ppg, and UNCW is ranked #20 at 83.3ppg.

This ought to be a high scoring game.

UNCW is #10 in the nation in fg%,

Is there a line on the game yet?

RE: Davidson thread
This is going to be a VERY tough game for our Hawks! If Dylan can't play or play effectively, it's going to be extremely difficult to compete with this club. Davidson is for real and I even had doubts after they lost that great big man last year, but McKillop is tremendous. They go very deep and are well-schooled against pressure. I'm hoping that the Hawks are able to extend the bench and get minutes for everyone. This is a learning experience as far as I'm concerned, but I'm sure that Keatts will have them ready to compete. That's not to say that UNCW doesn't have weapons because they do, but Davidson is well Davidson under Bob K. They are going to compete well in the A-10 in year 1 and that's speaks absolute volumes. Only a VCU has been able to translate upward and compete right away so that tells you that there's way more going on than you may think. This is the toughest test this year thus far. Go Hawks....don't get any more injuries because this team doesn't have very much depth with only 9 scholarship players this year!

Big game. It will be fun to see just where we are in our development. Down two players (Yemi and, potentially, Sherwood) from an already short roster really doesn't help. But it is what it is.

RE: Davidson thread
Sherwood would hurt badly. He can draw a big man out of the paint with his 3 point threat, plus he can cover their big man outside that can shoot.

If Sherwood can play, I like our chances. We basically start 5 Seniors, and Davidson relies heavily on Freshmen. The physical advantage that comes with age in college is huge in basketball.

Rebounds will determine this game. We should be able to eat up some shot clock with our press, which will hopefully take away their set 3 pointers and force them to speed up. When they miss, long rebounds should lead to fast breaks, and so far we've been incredible on the finish. If, instead, they get the offensive rebound, they will have chances to run plays with a full shot clock in a half court set. If that happens, they will be hard to beat.

This could be a game where our walk-on could shine. If he can defend the 3 ball from their big man, and focus on hitting the boards on the defensive end, he could play a big roll even if he isn't scoring.

I look for Freddie to have a big game with his size and athleticism on the break.

Getting beat bad late in the first half. Wildcats are very good and the Hawks can't shoot the ball today.

Hawks 8-28 from the floor with 11 TO's. Hawks down 41-24 at the half. Hopefully they come out better in the 2nd half! ODU is beating VCU by 14 at the half!

We can't afford to have Sherwood out on top of Yemi gone. That would be our best shooter and best rebounder out, and two of our big men. This would be a different game with Sherwood playing.

Hawks down 16 midway 2nd half. Sherwood not playing has hurt the Hawks bad. Ponder and Jackson aren't having their normal games. Davidson with 4 players with double digit efficiency ratings-Hawks have 2.
