Quote:Todd - don't fool yourself. The first chance he gets, he's gone.
Unless he's butting heads with WMU admin like he may have with NIU and/or Dan -- I don't think he's going to be hopping over to Tulsa or Tulane for some extra cash and have to rebuild from scratch there when things are rolling well right now.
But my main point is he's not going to get any real chances at the end of the year anyway -- remember, he was 1-11 last year. A *bad* 1-11. WMU should have been 4-8 his first year due to injuries. We didn't fire our old coach because of lack of talent. We had that, that's why we fired Cubit. This year is Way Different -- and Great. But since Fleck has ZERO HC experience, or even OC/DC experience before all this -- he's not going to get any offers if we don't win the MAC... even with a great year this year at 10-3.
Next year he won't go because it's going to be BRUTAL...
Quote:Todd, why will next year be brutal? Will you lose some talented seniors? I know you have a talented group of freshmen. Just curious.
We'll be a better team. But, so will the MAC. And our schedule will be much more harsh:
Michigan State
@Ohio State
@GA-Southern (the hot new G5 who dominates Sun Belt and beat Florida last year; almost beat 2 P5s this year)
@NIU
@Toledo
Wins: FCS team, CMU at home (CMU loses Rawls & Davis), Ball State at home, @EMU, and at least 2 out of 3 MAC East teams, 2 being at home
Basically, it has 7-5 written all over it if we have a good team. MAYBE 8-4 if no injuries and the wind blowing the right way.
I see WMU having a good chance at being 6-6 with the wind blowing against them some, but a fair chance at being 7-5. With some luck and the "Power of PJ", going 8-4 is a possibility, but we'd need some wind at our backs when luck comes around.
Again, PJ went 1-11 just last year, his 1st year above being a WR coach. We're on our way to have an 8W season this year, very possibly 9W season. Our schedule's tougher and the MAC itself will be tougher next year, combined with NIU & Toledo on the road.
7-5 is what one would put down in Vegas as a bet. With a lack of coaching experience on top of that, he won't be picked up.
Last year, Lembo of Ball State went 10-3! UConn didn't even want him.
