Todd, why will next year be brutal? Will you lose some talented seniors? I know you have a talented group of freshmen. Just curious.

Unless he's butting heads with WMU admin like he may have with NIU and/or Dan -- I don't think he's going to be hopping over to Tulsa or Tulane for some extra cash and have to rebuild from scratch there when things are rolling well right now.

But my main point is he's not going to get any real chances at the end of the year anyway -- remember, he was 1-11 last year. A *bad* 1-11. WMU should have been 4-8 his first year due to injuries. We didn't fire our old coach because of lack of talent. We had that, that's why we fired Cubit. This year is Way Different -- and Great. But since Fleck has ZERO HC experience, or even OC/DC experience before all this -- he's not going to get any offers if we don't win the MAC... even with a great year this year at 10-3.

Next year he won't go because it's going to be BRUTAL...

Quote:Todd, why will next year be brutal? Will you lose some talented seniors? I know you have a talented group of freshmen. Just curious.

We'll be a better team. But, so will the MAC. And our schedule will be much more harsh:

Michigan State
@Ohio State
@GA-Southern (the hot new G5 who dominates Sun Belt and beat Florida last year; almost beat 2 P5s this year)
@NIU
@Toledo

Wins: FCS team, CMU at home (CMU loses Rawls & Davis), Ball State at home, @EMU, and at least 2 out of 3 MAC East teams, 2 being at home

Basically, it has 7-5 written all over it if we have a good team. MAYBE 8-4 if no injuries and the wind blowing the right way.

I see WMU having a good chance at being 6-6 with the wind blowing against them some, but a fair chance at being 7-5. With some luck and the "Power of PJ", going 8-4 is a possibility, but we'd need some wind at our backs when luck comes around.

Again, PJ went 1-11 just last year, his 1st year above being a WR coach. We're on our way to have an 8W season this year, very possibly 9W season. Our schedule's tougher and the MAC itself will be tougher next year, combined with NIU & Toledo on the road.

7-5 is what one would put down in Vegas as a bet. With a lack of coaching experience on top of that, he won't be picked up.

Last year, Lembo of Ball State went 10-3! UConn didn't even want him.

Whether it was a difference of opinion on offensive systems that they wanted to run (the one PJ runs at WMU is much different than the one NIU ran the year before and the one that they ran under Carey), or a personality conflict between the two, we'll likely never know.

I always have believed that to be the case. The two of them decided they could not work together, PJ had an out and he took it. This is all speculation and only PJ and Dave Doeren know for sure. It is also ancient history at this point. PJ rowed his ship out of DeKalb never to return. I wish him well in the future whenever his success does not come at the Huskie's expense.

Here's a fun fact for you, NIU's team is younger than WMU's.

It's also pretty amazing to me that somebody who is retired decides to make up rumors about a 33 year old on a message board.
Really?NIU is starting more than 18 freshmen? Your line is the second most experienced in the MAC so everyone else is a freshman?

Do you just assume people aren't going to fact check you on this? WMU isn't starting 18 freshman, they list 3 freshman as starters on their 2 deep for CMU. THREE.

WMU lists 34 freshman or sophomores on their two deep. There's no doubt, that's a lot. You know how many NIU lists? 38.

I wonder if Maddie will have any insider scoop to help with game planning since he was with the Broncos before he transfered? Can't remember if this was before Peej was captain of the ship.

I was going by what Fleck has said in interviews. Looking back at what I wrote, I should have said that he is playing 18 freshmen. I apologize for the error. 05-footinmouth

Maddie couldn't play for a 1-11 team in the MAC
