RE: WATTS
A University System is an enormous bureaucratic machine as we all know. It could be possible that Dr. Watts is being put in an impossible situation by his boss's. Meaning, he is forced to take the brunt of all the backlash while others pull the strings, regardless of his personal opinion. Maybe?
Also, I drove to Legion listening to JOX. What a bunch of low grade losers. They were talking about UA killing the competition (UAB) before it gets too strong. Citing the growth of UCF and how they are taking recruits from Florida and FSU..huh?? How small must your "unit" be to think that way??

As far as Watts, ehhh maybe but doubtful. I find it hard to believe that someone trained in medicine and been in the system for years would be so malleable against his own opinion. If that's the case we should all pitch in and buy him a spine.
As far as units, I'll defer to someone else

I think Watts is a kind of typical east side of the campus guy. He regards Athletics as a waste of money which should properly be in his budget and that of his colleagues. It's a very selfish and short-sighted attitude, but very human.

+1
The east side guys do not hate athletics just are very very indifferent to athletics and they just greedily want ALL of the money which is in the best interest of UAB in their minds
The black helicopters are coming from the east side - not from sixty miles to the west. Which is much more dangerous coming from the inside. Hopefully they will be happy with just cutting the budget like the result of most the other uab academic studies have ended up.

These two statements don't match up. I agree that he's been to his fair share of sporting events before he had an obligation to be there. He didn't all of the sudden devalue the athletic program once he got the President's gig. Doesn't make sense. There's more to the story than simply, "He hates the athletic department"

I've seen him at ballgames, too. Hell, I saw him in Bartow, on his feet chanting "DEFENSE!"
I don't know what to make of him. I'm just disturbed that, given a chance to put this to rest, and offer a full-throated endorsement of football, he tanked it.
What has kept me from going completely off the wall is one sentence in Mackin's milquetoast attempt to mop up, about there being exciting times for UAB athletics ahead.

If it doesn't include football, then Mackin will have just sold all of his credibility for the rest of his tenure to keep this secret. He has to know that.
Of course, I'll say it again, I don't see how Mackin keeps his job (at least at the same level) without football. Surely that isn't exciting to him.

RE: WATTS
one MORE thing that you need to know about low voltage watt
Dr Watts is a medicine guy which mean that he like research especially bench research (animal research)
I will said 99 % of those research never end up in the clinical side (patients care)
The only thing those kind of doctors care is to have money or grant money to do their research which never endup in clinical side of medicine
Those doc doesnt care about athletic and dont even care about patients care

Carol Garrison was most of the FB games as far as I know. She used to stop and talk to my daughters about going to UAB when they got older. One has already graduated from UAB. The youngest is a freshman. And the middle will start next Fall.
