4th team RB scores (Pittman)

Herd has outscored USM 63-3 after the Eagles' "second" onside kick.

TD Pittman. I hate seeing the score run up and we are trying to run the ball to kill the clock. I hope the first thing Doc says to Monken is he hopes he understands and didn't mean it as disrespect.

Great start of the game USM. You guys came out and punched us in the mouth. Unfortunately I think that woke us up things escalated from there. Best of luck the rest of the season!!!

There was a point in time I would have never believed this....Basically averaging 61-18 over the last three years. Seriously hope you guys turn it around.

2012: Marshall 59 - Southern Miss 24 (in Hattiesburg)
2013: Marshall 61 - Southern Miss 13
2014: Marshall 63 - Southern Miss 17 (in Hattiesburg)

No, that was for having the audacity to try that bull**** on us in the first quarter. They earned a 60-something beatdown and they got it.

Really? You want to fault a team with nothing to lose trying to get a leg up in the game? F*** you.

I loved the way USM started the game.. they knew they were an underdog but were going to do everything they possible could to try and pull off the upset.. Had your guy not been offsides on the second kick who knows how tonight might have went.

I don't think Doc is the kind of guy that would do that. He has too much respect for the other team and the game itself.

If I was a USM fan I would have been digging the onside kicks. If they would have gotten the second one it could have been 21-0 and things could have gone very differently. Hats off to them.

I'm w/ you, and posted as much at the half. And agree 100%, if the offsides hadn't been called who knows what would've happened. Loved the guts displayed by Monken. To quote a certain ex-C. Pennington coach: "You PLAY..to WIN...the GAME!..."

No..is there something wrong with showing said team that when we get their best effort they're gonna get ours? If you kick an onside kick in the 1st quarter with the lead, you pretty much give up the right to cry foul for getting the score ran up on you.

I have no problem with USM kicking dual onside kicks but don't whine when the Herd drops 63. It goes both ways.

Running up the score does 2 things.

1) makes your team look weak because most people assume the other team just sucks really bad, not that you are good. really great teams dont RUTS. Bama coulda scored a hundred on auburn a few years ago and called off the dogs.

2) makes your coach look like a classless moron with small pecker syndrome

I agree with this but I also think for people who may not be Marshall fans they should know Watson is a pretty good player in his own right.. I mean the dude is having one of his worst games of the year and he's got nearly 50 yards and 3 TDs tonight.

1st. To debunk his pass protection myth, i challenge you find a single series or snap where butler allowed a sack on Cato. I rewatched wvery single game of last season and it happened 0 times. This year i also do not recall a sack. I also debunked the fumbling myth as well just using stats and butler was 2nd and just barely ro Grooms fumbling and he had much more carries, although i cant remember specifics. Doc now alledges practice but who knows, mone of us see those practices to know one way or another but Butler has been in docs doghouse since the OU game when he bobbled the kickoff and allowed the Ohio TD that prved to be decisive.

Now, that said on the Butler situation.... some food for thought...

Common opponents and scores
La tech 31-20 @ USM
Alabama 52-12 at home vs USM
Marshall 63-17 @ USM

To be fair, unless I've just overlooked it, I've yet to see any USM fans complain about Marshall putting up the points.

And as a Marshall fan, I have no problem with USM pulling out all the stops early. If you can grab hold of the momentum early and then just keep hanging around, it can change a game. Monken gambled a bit because he felt that was his best opportunity. Props to him for having the balls to see it through. It clearly caught the Herd by surprise.
