I'd rather see Frank Brown if we're changing QBs. He at least looked like he can run an offense in the spring game.

I hate to keep looking for the "next QB", but I really am intrigued by Mosely assuming he can get on the field at some point.

Good grief is all I can say about what we've got to work with this year.

I for one have no desire to lay todays loss on Cluley. The kid is a big improvement from the last couple years and plays hard. Today he was off. But with two full weeks to prepare is that really all his fault? It has seemed to me all year that we have never protected him adequately and that our play calling has rarely been such that he can build steady confidence and get the ball to multiple receivers. Chickens came home to roost today.

I'm fine with not pinning the loss on him, but let's not confuse things. He played a lousy game today too. I hope he bounces back and learns from this, but man, I'm not sold on him yet. We need a better QB. If this is Cluely, great. I'm all for it.

+1 I do not blame Cluley either. I also feel he is an improvement over the last couple of versions. I thought the play calling in the first half was poor. Anyone who has really watched the team play this year has noted the issues. OL & DL are off this year.

If we beat Nova next week this will all be forgotten and Cluley will be our savior again.

I just realized the score and I'm wondering; wtf, is this some kind of a joke or what? All this hub hub about this team, the recruiting, the minor leaguer recognition et at, AND this is what you get. Whacked by a bunch of hay seeds from New Hampshire. I've seen some our guys and they look like players. But, give me a break. This team is a joke. .

The D Line is what is confusing. The last time we had this many D Line veterans was in 2009.

Then again, none of those guys in 2009 played as true freshman; both Coleman and Claytor lost a redshirt year bc they had to play right away.

And at least one of the reserves expected to play a bigger role - Braxton Hicks - has barely gotten on the field.

I think there's been some reasons able constructive criticism in this thread. But this post is ridiculous and over the top.

2011 W&M QBs: 55.1% completion, 1854 yards, 168.5 Yards/game, 6.7 yards/attempt, 12 TD, 13 INT
2012 W&M QBs: 50.9% completion, 2076 yards, 188.7 yards/game, 6.5 YPA, 16 TD, 10 INT
2013 W&M QBs: 53.5% completion, 2040 yards, 170 yards/game, 6.8 YPA, 10 TD, 6 INT
Cluley this year: 52.8% completion, 898 yards/game, 149 yards/game, 6.2 YPA, 3 TD, 3 INT

The loss is not entirely on Cluley, to be sure, but to say he's an upgrade from the QB play the last 4 years is not supported by statistics right now. 2nd worst completion percentage, worst yards/game, worst YPA, and 2nd worst TD/INT ratio. If the argument is that he should get more time that's a reasonable argument but let's not pretend he's been a massive upgrade throwing the football.

Cluley has a lot of room to grow, but he is probably the one most responsible for the win against Lafayette. He had a bad day today. Would have liked to see a bit more of his feet and some more throws down field.

I back Cluley but mainly because I have no desire to get back on the quarterback carousel we've been riding the past few seasons. This year is no where close to getting out of hand. I think we'll be favored against JMU, UD, Towson, and Elon. And if we can steal one from UR or Nova at home we could be looking at 9-3. Things aren't so grim yet.

I agree the year is not out of hand, but we have been much softer than last year. Injuries have been a *****, but with the guys who returned, especially on defense, we should have killed the likes of HU, NSU and Lafayette. Even UNH fans commented on playcalling yesterday. Laycock & Rogers have decades of experience??

RE: Tribe @ New Hampshire.
The ship has to be righted quickly.

There was no offense today and the defense was overtaxed and, frankly, overpowered much of the time.

Big ????? remain about Cluley who has not appeared to have improved at all. He fails to read the defense well, fails to see his second and third options, and has little chance passing when
forced out of the pocket. I agree with those who also note his protection is poor.

I watched a succession of great, mobile quarterbacks on tv today, including the Ga Tech transfer playing for JMU, and continue to wonder why we haven't had one since the 2009 team.

Does anyone disagree that if Mosley or Ortiz was healthy Cluley would be sitting?

Mosley maybe not. Like Steve he has no experience, and we do not like to play young QB's. We have been told our offense is too complex for them???
ODU had a great true frosh, as did UNH a few years ago. I guess their offenses are primitive??

RE: Tribe @ New Hampshire.
We had a brief discussion about whether or not we should pull for our CAA mates. At this point, Nova and UNH are virtual locks for the playoffs so that leaves one spot. JMU, UD, UR, and SBU took care of business yesterday and I think JMU and UD will break the top 30. I believe, like last season, it's going to come down to us beating UR, this time at home.

It's going to be a tough week of practice but our guys need to put the UNH game behind them.

OT, but I went to the AGS board to congradulate UNH until I read their punk comments...who knew how classless some of them could be? They've been so humble for years.

Agree and stats would certainly back that up so far. We have played below last year in every comparable contest:

WVU, lost by 7; Tech, lost by 25
Lafayette, won by 28; this year won by 14
UNH, won by 17; this year lost by 29

Hampton is basically a draw vs last year.

I still like the core of this team very much and think they will overachieve on the year - that may mean we go 8-4, possibly 9-3 if everything begins to click.

I don't see a win against Villanova upcoming and my hunch is we could lose one or two other games, most likely JMU and/or UR.

Despite the result yesterday, I think we clearly have the talent to win vs. Delaware, Elon and Towson.

So, this team has to bring it up a notch against Nova, JMU and UR. If they can - and win at least one of those - than 8-4 looks likely.

I was very surprised by that as well. Maybe it was the pent up frustration that we just don't see or hear from our dominance over the years. Keep in mind though, it's just a couple of posters.

Another head scratcher. They reported 18,000+ for the game yesterday. The stadium seats 6,500 and the far side on TV wasn't even half full. I think you could have put the entire crowd on one side of Zable.

RE: Tribe @ New Hampshire.
We got whipped on the road by the #4 team in the country. No way you beat a program of that quality forever. This was going to happen at some point against UNH.

Cluley had a tough day for sure, but he can play better than that and he will. His consistency from week to week will improve next year and the year after.

This isn't that big of a deal.

The next game very well may be the toughest of the season. I see potential to pile up some wins after that. Don't know if there will be enough to get us in the playoffs, but plenty of opportunity to have a good season.

Go Tribe, beat Villanova.

Would you rather have a complex offense or an offense that works?
