I'm going to refer to the "Game day experience" thread. This isn't on Toledo. The university is as disconnected from the community as the local blah and we know how that business is going.

UT did a good job advertising last week and even better the week before but all the ads were about the team, not the experience, which is good because false advertising never wins fans. The ads appealed to the "win and they'll come crowd." Ads need to make the Coach, the University and the experience of being in stands with 24,000 other people the celebrity because these are the constants. I think adverts need to make fans feel needed and part of the team, even while asking them to pay for the glow.

Tough job I'm sure, but I just didn't get the same feel from the ads that I get from some of the vids posted here.

I wonder if we'll see 24,000 again this season? BG game?

A lot can be forgotten by then, particularly if Missouri keeps winning and better, winning big. Don't think they are that caliber team though.

Was talking to a guy from Kenton High School where Mauk played. They bought hundreds of tickets to see him play, but last night's HS game was stopped at the half because of lightening and was being finished today. Needless to say, the entire community was pretty bummed out.

The bottom line is that there is no excuse for not being able to sell out a game of this magnitude. What's the metropolitan population of Toledo? Isn't it something like half a million people? And we can't get a meager 26,000 to support the Rockets for a Saturday noon game against an SEC opponent? Sad, and depressing.

I have been away from Ttown for quite awhile but do make it back to visit once a year and I have always been amazed at how much most of that city could care less about UT. It kind of showed today and speaks volumes about why the ROCKETS will always be the rockets. 03-banghead

Great turnout by Missouri fans helped attendance greatly. Without them it would have been bare.

ohio state is the reason. People of all ages are obsessed with them. They like Toledo but if ohio state is playing the same day their focus is on that game. Toledo is perceived as a nice little team that plays in the minor leagues.

RE: Word on Ticket Sales?
How many other teams in our conference have 24k at a time of game their school doesn't usually play with virtually no student girls there and a ton of local high school games finishing games? Those factors being resolved would have gotten us 2-5k more.

Still... IT WAS LOUD. The team didn't show up early so lots left. 35-7 at one point.... The students we had were enough to make the glass bowl rocking(Shout out to Vus vus zelas). If we beat UC the BSU and CMU crowds will be above 20k. Maybe 16-20k for homecoming and depending on the record we will have 20k for BG, if UT has 1/2 losses we will have a near sellout.

The Glass Bowl is a great venue, and although we don't show up to potential with the marketing during games to keep fans interactive and "into it" WHAT MAC SCHOOL DOES?! We are still among the best in the conference when it comes to MAC atmosphere.

Lets keep a level head and get up for this UC game next week! 24k isn't a disgrace. Some here had way too high of expectations...

Agreed UofToledoFans, I loved the Vus vus zelas, wish they had given out even more to make even more noise and maybe I could have gotten one.
Are thunderstix banned or something? Toledo used to give EVERY student a pair of those things in the early 00s and it was such an enhancement to stadium noise/ atmosphere. Really wish we would go back to thunderstix, unless they're not allowed. They can't be all that expensive, can they? I mean look at the new video board we just got, are thunderstix really out of the budget?

RE: Word on Ticket Sales?
I personally thought the Glass Bowl was quite loud. I was on the visiting side stands the first half and the home side the second half. I thought the home side was quite loud. After the late two touchdowns by the Rockets to get it 35-21 and Mizzo on the 3rd and long, the place was real loud. It seemed a bit lackluster early on but i think Rocket fans were a bit confused/angry by some of the calls and dropped passes. This wasnt what fans were expecting.

With that said, I think it could have been louder. Students did well but did empty out early.
