RE: Rip works for UCLA?
Rip was in a tough situation here. The Administration didn't follow through with their promises. Still didn't get those things done during Tommy West's time either. RC listened to Cal too much, on too many things. While going to bowl games, we didn't invest in football like we should have. Did the big $ influential donors try to get some things done?

Yes it was rampant, but if I had been Rip, if the didn't play in Memphis and there was funny business going on, they wouldn't play in the $EC or I'd blow the whistle on every high school coach and recruiter involved. I lost respect for him because of that, but I really liked Rip.

Rip would've been blackballed if he'd done that. You can't blame the guy for NOT committing career suicide.

black balled for what? his responsibility was the football program at Memphis, not worrying about future jobs.

Rip did not have the political; power to out other coaches and not have it come back and bite him in the ass. No Tiger coach would even be allowed on certain campuses in the region if he did that.

Memphis not being allowed on some campuses would just speak volumes about the amount of corruption. Actions speak louder than words.

Although I liked Rip personally, someone above said he never should have been hired in the first place. I agree. Lacewell should have been here by then.

A long fall we all wouldn't mind.

How do you know it's a great job? What's his NFL pension?

He gets to hang out in LA...at a great university. IIRC, he works with alumni development.

NFL coaches pension is complicated to calculate, but for those coaches on teams that participate in the plan, they can earn up to 75% of their top 5 consecutive years average salary per year for life from age 65 on. This includes salary from playoff games. The maximum pension benefit per year at age 65 is 200k. Roughly, at age 65, they will get 5% of their average salary each year they work up to a maximum of 15 years (75% of ther salary) per year of retirement. They also have the option of a lump sum benefit age age 65

that still isn't a ton in Los Angeles.

True. The state rapes it's citizens which is why many here who helped ruin it are headed to Texas to help ruin that state. I like to call them locust...Whatever happened to Stobart?

And to Oregon, right?

Blackballed for snitching, what do you think? Bruce Pearl did what you're saying with only ONE recruit, and he couldn't get work in D1 for 10 years. Future jobs aside, he alienates our program from every highschool in the region because he's now a whistleblower. Terrible idea.

Alienate or not we didn't get squat before or after all that. Eventually the guy from Bama came back to Memphis way after the fact.

Point being, we never had a football coach that was willing to stand up for the program without worrying about the other clutter.

Cal told the local coaches where to stick it and still got the Memphis kids he wanted most of the time.

I think other schools and the NFL would have had the same amount of respect for Rip if he had blown the whistle. Except of course for those he would blow the whistle against, and screw them.

No one will ever change my mind about that, a lot of people knew what was going on and turned their heads, while everyone wanted to blame RC going forward.

Well, why didn't YOU say anything?

How do you know I/we didn't? There was a lot being said at the time.

You knows what you get when you complain about crooked recruiting? Not "let's look into that" - you get a buttload of " prove it". That's a can't win scenario
