Currently our team has a lot of potential, but that doesn't win games. Our schedule gives us the best chance for a successful 1st season in the SBC. Its up to the team to take advantage.
its obvious this mtpikap fellow is really stretching to cover his dislike of ga southern. seems to me he criticizes ga southern about every chance he gets. that's fine cause its his perogative...i just consider the source when he posts stuff like that.
Dislike?
The last time we played you guys I was a few weeks removed from my twelfth birthday and had never heard of either school.
I've been to Statesboro once in my life when I was a senior in high school and we went to visit a friend's older sister who was a student at Southern.
We aren't in he same conference, nor are we likely to be anytime soon, so the odds of us playing one another any time soon are pretty remote.
I'm more or less indifferent to Georgia Southern, the same way I am to 95% of FBS programs and 100% of FCS programs. I've been "amused" by your fans view of the Sun Belt for some time now, but dislike? No.
Also, when I post things like what? An example of arrogance or chest beating that had been asked for?
I believe Kapp resides in Atlanta... He claims to be neutral or indifferent and for whatever reason seems determined to show up slinging the irons to save the day from the uninformed, arrogant GS poster. Word smithing from this self proclaimed neutral position he then carefully inserts the condescension to reveal his true identity.
Going back just a few years there were Southern(and App) fans on AGS saying the Sun Belt would be a step down in competition. Flash forward to today and most have tempered their expectations greatly, but many still have unrealistic expectations. So what if I find that amusing? Doesn't mean I dislike you guys or are rooting for you guys to fail. If you guys prove to be the anomaly you all so adamantly believe you are I'll congratulate you, but even if you were to equal the success of Troy(no small task) I expect many of your fans will be disappointed.
So much has changed in the last year for Ga Southern that it's near impossible to predict this upcoming season. There can be predictions on every end of the spectrum, but that's just what they are, predictions. You can rave about how you know we won't do well, but that is just a prediction. Only time can tell the result. It's an adjustment. Just as MTSU switching from the Sunbelt to CUSA. You saying that you don't care about the success of Georgia Southern's program is like asking us if we care about the success of MTSU's.

You saying that you don't care about the success of Georgia Southern's program is like asking us if we care about the success of MTSU's.
Going from the Sun Belt to CUSA is nothing like moving from FCS to FBS.
You have to:
Add 22 scholarships over several years.
Play a 12 game schedule with a disadvantage in depth for a couple of seasons.
No longer have the advantage of recruiting as a national power within your division.
Play two or more P5 games nearly every year as opposed to playing one P5 team most years.
What did we have to "adjust" to that's even close to any of that? Hell with Western coming on board half our division are our former Sun Belt conference mates.
I also never said I knew you'd fail(and at no point have I been anywhere near "raving"), in fact I've said many times I think you guys can be a Sun Belt power, but I don't believe you're going to top UNT's run from 2001-2004 or Troy's run from 2006-2010, equalling either would be an accomplishment, but I just don't see the majority of your fans on here being satisfied with that. 41 wins over a 5 year period being considered successful will be quite the "adjustment" for your fan base I imagine, 6 winning seasons out of 10 being considered successful(especially when the majority of Southern fans have seen three or less losing seasons in their life) will be another "adjustment" for your fan base.

Rowdy? An 11 game series that's been dormant for nearly twenty seasons? Doubtful.

But all the FCS and Socon titles don't count. We hadn't won anything at the FBS level. So technically we haven't won before, so we can't act like we have (maybe we can pretend). Most fans of other schools predicted GS (and App) to have at most 3 wins and finish near the bottom of the conference. We far exceeded their expectations and even those of our fanbase.
It is also nice to see preseason predictions and compare them to actual outcomes.

Just a jab at the "know your place" people. We were successful in FCS and the SoCon, and I'm sorry, but a winning tradition creates a winning attitude and that OBVIOUSLY translates into success on the field. Obviously no one knew what the season held or could have predicted the winner, and of course no one expected us to go 8-0 right out of the gate. And its just an observation, but tell me, when was the last time we went undefeated in the SoCon? I thought so..
Irregardless, I'm happy we are playing in the FBS, but its pretty apparent this hasn't been some HUGE step up in competition, if it was a step up at all. I think GS and App are the 2 best teams in the 'belt at the years end and the next few years it looks like we'll have to carry the 'belt on our backs and knock off a few big teams in some bowl games in order to get the Sun Belt some respect. Right now the Sun Belt isn't very good but hopefully our presence will help every team get their game up. With all due respect, App and GS are NOW the teams to beat. Sorry if this ruffles feathers but its the truth. And yes, we deserve to thump our chests after the year we've had. Next year may be even better.

yup. tons of people talked crap to us. we dished plenty back, and our team proved us correct on the field. there doesn't need to be much talk from us other than congrats to the other teams. that one poster can make his posts with his asterisk mark all he wants. We shouldn't even bother replying to him. For those posters that still try to diminish what we did, they are just bitter.
Most fans of other teams have given us our congrats. The few salty ones are just overshadowing the majority, and there is no need to rub it in.
I'm damn proud of my team and what they accomplished this year, and honestly, I am used to us winning. I still love winning very much, and being on the field with the team and fans Saturday was awesome. I don't need to defend our schedule or our team one bit.
People who doubted us before the season know who they are, and they know they were wrong. End of story.
Time to sit back and enjoy our trophy and look forward to next season.

Seriously? We are having this conversation again? I'm rather new to the Sun Belt boards, but this seems to be in every thread.... I really enjoyed reading the threads on this board a couple months ago, but now it is just pathetic.
And for the record, you can't talk about how good you are and how bad your competition is in the same statement, you look like an idiot.

In their defense, everyone in this thread talked a lot of noise about how GS was going to struggle hard. Can't talk **** and then get mad when it gets thrown back in the monkey cage!
GS went 9-3, 8-0 in FBS after a lackluster 7-4 season in FCS? Can't really get mad at his logic...

even I would be willing to embrace GS's title... 8-0 undisputed champs, heck of a year, congratulations, pat-on-the-back with no asterisk.. if these dang GS fans could just show a little class and stop posting stupid crap.
I'm confident that most of us feel this way. There would always be a few trolls of course... but such is life.
NCEagle It sounds like you're realizing this already, but your sensible posts are white noise right now amongst the legion of arrogant t-shirt GS fans. A championship is something to be celebrated... not to gloat over.
UL has kicked TXST's face in twice now. TWICE!
You have no idea how badly I wanted to see them lose (pure competitiveness). I'm not sure if Eagle fans realize how far you'd actually have to push Bobcat and stAte fans for us to pull for UL and root for Georgia Southern to fall flat on their faces instead.
Yeah, I've been a loud anti-GS voice as of late.... but like most of the anti-GS crowd NOW, I didn't take part in the GS trash talking early on. I had nothing against you guys. (you wont see any posts by me on this thread before this one)
Lets get real here... our hatred for y'all has nothing to do with GS' success and everything to do with all the obnoxious GS trolls. (the loudest portion of your fanbase) They are the reason everyone loathes you guys.

I never said we were that good, but I am proud we ran the table. On the other hand, I also think we may have lost a SoCon game or 2 this year had we remained there. I did say the Sun Belt may or may not have been a step up in competition, but I do believe the Sun Belt is stronger than the SoCon top to bottom, however, when Wofford, Samford and Chatty are having decent years, they would probably have a winning Sun Belt record based on the teams we've seen this year. Everyone beats their chest about FCS vs. FBS football but the upper FCS teams are equal and often better than the lower FBS teams. Having more scholarships to create depth is great, but in the end you only put 11 of your guys on the field at a time.

I thought pre-season that we would lose 5 games. I thought that late in the season we would be banged up ad drop the TXST and ULM game. Glad I was wrong, but I still wouldn't say the competition in the SUCON is better. As long as this conference doesn't have whatever an "Elon" is, it's not worse.

I never said you shouldn't be proud of your success. You should be, and I have no problem admitting you guys beat my team. But saying the sunbelt is below SoCon when there were a couple key teams that you did not play is not fair either.
