My SS card doesn't come with a picture. Does yours?

You don't want to go to war, don't join the military. The armed forces aren't a physical fitness daycamp for folks that want the government to pay for their college educations.

So we didn't do a draft in WWII and Vietnam?

Are you saying we should abolish the draft?

Well, if you couldn't draft folks to conduct a war, then that's a pretty effective way to eliminate expanded participation in unpopular wars. As a proponent of individual rights, I'm no fan of forced coercion.

exactly.

There are legions of men/women before both of you last posters that have laid down their lives for your way of life. And to a great degree, many of them were "DRAFTED". How unusual. They all stepped up and did their duty.

Well then, WHO CAN tell you anything? How to do, what to do and when? Mind telling me that? Sounds like you just don't want to be told anything. You consider that coercion. That flies in the face of all that the military has been asked to do and experienced leaders be they Generals, through Lieutenants or senior enlisted men. They will tell you what to do and when. Get over it.

.....Or they would have been thrown into jail. Their sacrifices are appreciated, but I don't feel they should have been forced into it by the government.

Who? People who have earned my respect. My parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers and professors that clearly have demonstrated a knowledge of what they're talking about. Professionals in their fields with clear understanding of their subject knowledge. In short, lots of people can tell me many things and then, based on what I know of them and what they say, I can decide for myself whether they deserve me attention. If I had CHOSEN to join the military then I would be agreeing to allow my superiors to tell me what/when/how for a certain period of time. But the Draft is not Constitutional any more than Social Security or Medicare or Obamacare; therefore I disagree with it on Constitution principle.

The draft is a worldwide occurrence. It is done by all countries. If there wasn't a draft who do you think would volunteer to fight? Not the liberal pansies who eschew any kind of service because it's "not right".
There wouldn't be enough people to defend the country.

As one has said before.... EXACTLY. Understand THAT loud and clear.

Among others, "Semper Fi".
