Looks like an Akeem type, catching as well as running. Does anyone know what his stats were last fall?

He was All-State last year in Arkansas so they should be very good.

DJ Brown-Jimmy Jones

There is a growing “super team” growing at North Little Rock High School. The team already has a collection of Division 1 talent, like #2 player in the Arkansas 25 for 2015, K.J. Hill. That team is only going to get better when you add a player that was a division rival, and was the best player on that team. That player is D.J. Brown, formerly of Little Rock Catholic, and now is a member of the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats.

Brown is slippery. That is the best word to describe the running back/wide receiver receiver recruit. There have been players in the past that have used the word “playmaker” as the word to describe their position instead of a traditional position, and Brown can use that same moniker.

Brown’s film is literally all touchdowns. He is a touchdown machine. Brown has great foot speed, 4.44 40 time, and has some cuts that are reminiscent of former Arkansas high school star and Razorback legend Joe Adams. Brown is a player that can stop moving completely, cut, and then hit the highest gear of speed that he was running before he stopped. Brown is also a very versatile weapon. He can play running back or wide receiver. At wide receiver, Brown can even go up and compete for the ball, even being at the small stature of 5’9”.

Brown has a lot of suitors, some from Division II all the way up to SEC power schools. He holds six offers, from Arkansas State, Henderson State, Illinois, Memphis, Northern Illinois, and Southern Miss. Other schools that are evaluating the playmaker include, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Miami, Missouri, NC State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, and several others. Obviously Brown is not going to be able to camp with all of these schools this summer to gain offers, but Brown is looking to camp quite a bit this summer to improve his offer sheet. In the last month, Brown saw coaches from Texas Tech, South Carolina, and Illinois come to school to speak with him. Brown is also going to be surrounded by better players this next season at North Little Rock, so his numbers should improve from the last two seasons at Little Rock Catholic. He is though sharing time with several playmakers as well.

The Verdict: D.J. Brown is the most overlooked player in the state. Yes he may be on the small side, but it is what he does with the ball that is so impressive. He has a lot of schools looking at him, but not many offers in ratio to the amount of evaluators. He is a threat to score every time that he touches the ball and can make almost any defender miss. I expect Brown to have a great year this next season and will probably be a part of a squad that will compete for a state title. Brown will be able to succeed at any level just because of his elusive nature. If he ends up in the Big 10, that will be a great fit for him.

Pros: Elusive, Scoring threat, Fast

Cons: Small, Overshadowed by teammates

Scout also has him rated as a 3*. What is really interesting is they list him at 5'11 1/2" 189 lbs. while all the other list him smaller and lighter. I sure hope that is a real growth spurt and not a misprint! He is an excellent get, maybe the best in this class. Let"s get on a roll!

This definitely sends Dre Brown and other kids from our state that have spurned us a message.

I love what we are doing with the skilled positions in this class, I just continue to wonder where o where is the beef? We are going to be in desperate need of both OL and DL in this class and we've seen nothing. Not to mention help at LB. Like what we've done with with DBs. It is of course early though.

Anybody notice how our commit Sutton Smith's position on 247 changed from RB/ATH to OLB now? Hmm...interesting....

Not surprised. Those are the kinds of athletes Kane wants at LB. I think I did mention originally I thought he was an LB recruit.

We apparently just received a "HUGE" (per Copeland) commitment.

Wonder if that's the Brown commitment. Hopefully it's huge as in O-line HUGE.

Love that the WR is from champaign, taking a kid in the Illini's back yard.

With the Brown commitment, I think I recall reading an article about him back in October when I was in Little Rock a week at a client site. Can't remember off hand, but it was about a kid from north little rock.
