State Department: Keystone XL not an environmental problem
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/e...ml?hpid=z1

Quote:“Approval or denial of any one crude oil transport project, including the proposed Project, remains unlikely to significantly impact the rate of extraction in the oil sands, or the continued demand for heavy crude oil at refineries in the United States,” the new environmental report said.

Good, now just build the damn thing.

Ater 5 federal studies on the environmental impact, Zero will not timely clear it's construction. It would carry more than 800,000 barrels of crude oil a day to refineries in Texas.

Another Zero failure.

RE: State Department: Keystone XL not an environmental problem
Not building the pipeline actually increases carbon emissions.

"The State Department constructs an alternative scenario in which the Keystone XL is not built and the oil reaches refineries via rail and tanker. That results in 27.8% more greenhouse gas emissions. If the oil is distributed instead by train to the network of existing pipelines, that's a 39.7% carbon increase. Transporting by rail directly to the Gulf of Mexico, as some operations are now doing, means a 41.8% increase."

"The State Department says the project will create some 42,100 jobs ("direct, indirect, and induced"), many of them union jobs. But Mr. Obama has cared more about the lobbying of San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer, who is threatening to cut off Democrats if Mr. Obama approves the pipeline. Talk about feeding the 1% while trashing the middle class."

RE: State Department: Keystone XL not an environmental problem
Time for the House to propose and pass a bill that calls for the US to allow the construction of the Keystone Pipeline.

Send it to the Senate...let's see what Reid does with it and if it makes it through the Senate...see what Obama does.

All the while get out the PR machine talking about the number of jobs Keystone will create and the state department report negating environmental impact claims.

Hold the Reid's and Obama's feet to the fire now that they can't use the environment as an excuse to stall.

Opposition to this pipeline is stupid and founded in unscientific fallacies.

Obama needs to figure out that he's just screwing himself and the country over by not building the darn thing.

I like this idea a lot. Make the voters aware who is holding up basically a "shovel ready" project with widespread support in an election year.

Obama's own State Dept seems to have painted him into a corner where he has to make a decision. As the article says, the oil is coming out of the ground no matter what, so why shouldn't we share in the benefits brought about by it?

Will the price of gasoline go up or down if the Keystone XL pipeline is built?

Independence from Middle East Oil should be the focus and the main concern on the majority of Americans.

Anyone who thinks Keystone XL will drop gasoline prices isn't thinking this through or just doesn't know what they're talking about.

Keystone XL won't make us less dependent on middle eastern oil (not that we are particularly dependent on it right now).

So, do you support energy independence?

And if you don't think getting more of our oil from sources not in the hands of unstable fundamentalist loonies will not have a positive effect on prices, then you're mistaken.

No ****, Sherlock.

It WILL, however, put more friendly oil on the market.

You still don't get how this works. Read up on how captive suppliers affect local prices.

So, more oil and more friendly oil on the global market isn't going to provide a more stable market with greater supply?

RE: State Department: Keystone XL not an environmental problem
There isn't a shortage as it is.

The boost will come in terms of more refined product. There won't be enough to slash prices or anything like that but it will provide a significant boost to the refiners and economies along the gulf.

It's a good thing for reasons other than gas prices or dependence on foreign oil, which isn't even a real problem now.

OK, let's play this game using your rules. Even if there's no decrease in the price of gas, the pipeline has to be built, people have to make the pipes, deliver them, put them together, maintain them, and so on. Those are JOBS. Don't we want jobs?

Are you for or against the pipeline? You certainly don't seem like an environmentalist, so if you're against it, I'd assume you're just following your political masters.
