Oklalittledicksie doesn't think people under the age of 30 are smart enough to responsibly vote. Does that count?

And the "quick hire a college kid while he still knows it all's" around here are convinced that if older people all suddenly died everyone left would join hands, sing kumbayya with them, and all live in blissful utopian gay harmony.

Does that count?

Do you think most or a majority of people discriminate because someone is too old/young for whatever it is that they are doing.

If you're asking if a lot of older folks think the younger generation is going to hell in a handbasket - well, I'd bet it's been that way since cave man days.......

Yes there is, but it truly happens both ways. The perceptions are that older people can't learn new things and younger people have no experience.

Yes.

I am a manager at a fairly large bank in the US and we get commission on sales. Part of our sales are on sales leads we are told to call. I've had several employees from other branches (while in training) comment on how they have a person born in 1932 or something and "they won't apply for a credit card." I just tell them "send me the lead and I'll steal your customer". In the past couple weeks I've probably booked $70k worth of credit cards and I'd bet that $30k of that money is folks older than 65. To me, money is money...and I see everyone that walks through the door as an opportunity.

Yep. Some of it is fairly deserved on both accounts, for what it's worth.

Yes, but I think it works both ways and it is pretty much a zero sum game.

It's only natural that people identify (and understand) better with those closer to their age. They carry many of the same "significant things/times in life" that range from everything from politics to music to sports to gadgets, etc.- on and on with one another. As such, this "easier to identify with those of our own generation" often manifests itself with more trust in those "of our age".

As I said earlier - probably been like this for hundreds if not thousands of years.

RE: Is there Ageism in America?
Oddly enough, one of the few allowable forms of residency discrimination is in 55+ communities which are legally allowed to refuse those under the age of 55 and those with small children (I'm certain about the age, and pretty sure about the family aspect). I wish they allowed for college apartments to do the same, as the woman with the 5 year old child living above me in an apartment complex obviously aimed at college students had no business being there. Oh, are we being a little loud at 11:30 on New Years Eve? Really?
