You convince UTA to add football, it will take 4 years, when they are members, drop Idaho. That puts the west at 6 teams, UTA, TxSt, NMSU, ASU, ULL and ULM.
Add an eastern team, whatever school that is, there are many names being thrown around. That would put the east at 6 team, USA, Troy, GaSt, GaSo, Appy and a team to be named later. If we go any larger then this, then the SBC will go the way of the WAC and split. But Benson already has knows how to split a conference, so maybe that is something we can expect.
That's the answer, just accept it.
I still want Missouri State in addition to UTA football.

why in the hell does the Sunbelt need a 12th team
to get that all important conference championship that no one is clamoring for?
to get that conference championship that one team can use to beat the hell out of some poorly ranked conference team they might have already beat to they can move up in the points race to get that final playoff spot?
so they can find out that conference championships that match teams that really have nothing on the line draw horribly?
what the Sunbelt really needs is 2-3 less teams so that there are only 8 conference games or even better 7 so that the members of the conference can schedule the OOC to meet their individual needs instead of pretending like acting like a big boy conference will actually result in the Sunbelt being treated like one
no sunbelt team is ever going to need the "points" from a championship game win to get into the playoffs IF there was ever a chance that a Sunbelt team was going to get into the playoffs that would happen with the 12 games already on the schedule not with a stupid championship game that 15,783 people show up to see
there is not going to be any big network payout for hosting one it will end up being an EXPENSE for the conference and cost a lot of money that the conference could be paying out to teams instead
hell the Sunbelt left what 4 teams at home this year that could have played in a bowl game and you think they need a playoff game to go with that or another spare moveup team to possibly go 6-6 and get to stay home for that instead of going to a bowl
good night get a clue people
Easy answer, money. As has been discussed on here, come 2016 it will be about selling inventory to some of the highest bidders. We could possibly move our current TV package to one where we actually see money per team on our media rights deal. From there, we sell the championship game separately and make more money. Benson has pretty much stated the addition of the 12th was to (1) cut down on travel and (2) generate money from a championship game...

Liberty isn't an option. Their inclusion would make us a complete laughingstock and would seriously limit any future expansion as lots of schools would say "no thanks"
EKU is too close to UK
Coastal Carolina is too small and doesn't have the facilities
College of Charleston is tiny. Also private.
The realistic choices at this point are:
1) Missouri State
2) JMU
3) NDSU (football only)
4) Wait for Texas State to drop their opposition to any Southland schools and see if SHSU wants to jump up.
5) Stay at 11 until the situation changes. Or perhaps look at Jax State.
Are you sure that we're the ones keeping Southland schools out or the mix? My undestanding is that it was UL and ASU that had the no Southland pact.
Bit of a history lesson. In the early 1980's, Arkansas State blocked Texas State's addition to the Southland. SWT thought they had the six of seven votes needed to get in, but ASU was able to get NELA to vote no. My understanding is that their big issue was travel-costs and didn't relish the idea of having to travel to San Marcos in everything.
SWT went off with some of their former DII brethren to form the Gulf Star Conference and the SLC venture failed. When UTA dropped football and was forced out of the SLC for a year, the SLC needed to expand.
ASU left because their travel costs would balloon. Louisiana Tech and Lamar joined them from the conference and SWLa, New Orleans and UT-PA would form the American South. Ironically, the league was more spread out than the SLC would have been and ASU football was now a 1-AA independent. It seems to me that part of the reason for leaving the SLC and blocking of Texas State was the perceived drop in prestige.
The SLC invited four of the Gulf Star teams, TXST, NW St, Sam Houston and SFA. Eventually, the other two Gulf Star schools, Nicholls St and SELa would join too.

Actually, USA, Georgia State, and I believe Georgia Southern (at the time of the bid) have no victories against FBS schools.

Nor did Middle, I'm pretty sure anyhow, don't know the exact timeline(I was in high school and a UGA fan at the time) of when we got our invite, but our first FBS victory was in 2000 and SBC play began in 01.
It was really just a reference to how much Southern's lack of a FBS victory was mentioned.

I think the least of the FBS teams we played as of late has been Colorado State back in '07 which we lost in Ft. Collins 34-42. The closest recent loss was at Navy in 2010 7-13. Going back to PJ, that era it would have been in 1999 to Oregon St.41-48. So our win over UF was beyond huge.
Most of our FBS opponents have been of the SEC or ACC variety.
If you look up our record against other conferences on College Football Data Warehouse, it's kind of deceptive because of reclassification & realignment. Against the AAC we have a 13-1 record, 10 vs UCF but they were 1AA at the time we played them, 2-0 vs USF but they were new, and a playoff loss to 1AA UConn.
Against CUSA, we're 11-12, but seven of those wins are against y'all at MTSU prior to reclassification. In fact all but USM were 1AA losses except Southern Miss and that was 1941.
2-1 vs MWC, 2 win against 1AA Nevada, 1 loss to 1A CSU.

I know, eventually you'd have to think the University Presidents will get tired of Benson continually pushing things they don't want (like Liberty University, Idaho - sorry but its true, and now this nonsense about an Eastern team when there really isn't one).
I think that Benson is trying an end around the SBC Presidents by inviting a bunch of new Presidents to the table that will support him unquestioningly.

Nothing stood out to me in this article until the last few paragraphs... and then Coastal Carolina was pushed to the forefront as a school that could receive an invite. Coastal Carolina... really?
Coastal Carolina University
Location: Conway, South Carolina
Mascot: Chanticleers
Enrollment: 9,335
Current conference: Big South (FCS)
Current football stadium: Brooks Stadium (9,214 capacity)
Current basketball arena: HTC Center (3,600 capacity)
I understand that the Chanticleer's football team has made playoff appearances the past two years now, but like Liberty, they have yet to put anything substantial on the field proving them to be worthy of an invite. They have never defeated an FBS opponent and have major work to do on their facilities before even being considered.
That's just my two cents worth though.
Perhaps Benson knows that ASU and UL will be leaving shortly. We can only hope!
It is a move to get to 12. It would open the South Carolina market for the Sunbelt and they would be a natural rivalry with App. St. and Georgia Southern. They could be a really great add.

Myrtle Beach is filled with seasonal residents, retirees, and poor people that love the Gamecocks. Not the demographics you want to build an FBS program around.
Coastal has only had a team for ten years most of them winning years.
The football stadium was built with expansion in mind .
The basketball arena looks like an upper deck is possible.
There is a huge beam holding up a little sky walk ?
The baseball, golf and soccer teams are usually ranked high.
The athletic budget is 25 million I believe.
The school and area are growing rapidly and the coach is a billionaire.
