I'd hardly say 24 points is an advertisement for the TO. That's a low scoring day for most SBC teams. Or maybe I just don't understand.
Navy scored 31 on Troy a few years ago and Troy fans keep saying to watch the Troy/Navy game on how to defend the TO. 31 is too many points to say we defended it well. I just don't understand TO logic I guess.
I think Georgia Southern will run it very well though and will give us fits. I just don't understand the logic used in defending that point, unless you're using the TO offense as a defense by means of ball control. But then that's just what it is, ball control.

Surprisingly the only CUSA bowls mentioned on the SB threads are the ones in which CUSA came up short. I don't see any mention of Marshall's win over a P5 opponent or ECU's win over the MAC anywhere. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.
I didn't realize the Marshall game even happened. I watched quite a bit of the ECU game. ECU looked good and Ohio wore some of the ugliest jerseys I've seen yet.

Well lets see here. One of those games involved a CUSA team facing a Sun Belt Team, and this one involved a former SBC member, and is getting national attention right now from what happened in it.
If you'd like, we could talk about FIU's bowl game this year. When is the Toilet Bowl played?

One of the misconceptions thrown around about option teams is that they are not explosive and can't play from behind. Now UL has never been a true TO team, but we were a very run heavy multiple spread using the zone read option during the Bustle years. A couple of those teams, notably the ones with Mike Desormeaux at Quarterback, were VERY explosive. In fact, in one of those years UL was the most explosive offense in the country [measured by plays from scrimmage of over 50 yards].
The early Oklahoma wishbone teams were extremely explosive, often scoring 60-80 points without throwing a pass.

Since we're talking bowl games, How about we talk about Marshall's win over a good/decent P5 opponent? Wasn't that G5 vs P5? Oh that's right. That game actually made CUSA look good. Ok back to the MT game then.

i for one think CUSA has some potential with some teams.....just not as good no matter how many links to bowls as the SBC.....just not in the numbers....

How about we not. My school has never played Marshall in football. Never shared a conference with them. They're not related to the SBC. They are not nearby. Their opponent is the same. Who cares. I doubt it would have received much of a mention if they had been beaten either.
If you want to talk about the stAte/Marshall basketball game then it is relevant. If North Texas beats UNLV that will be of some limited interest to me worthy of comment.

I don't recall Marshall playing in the Sun Belt last year. Other than AState beating their basketball team this year, and of course the movie and reason for it, I couldn't tell you anything about them.

I had forgotten how easy the triple option was to watch when it worked smoothly.
Wow, you must love a slow death! This game is terrible to watch...gave it one quarter and that was enough.

Thought the same thing about some of the Louisiana games I watched this year.

MTSU SUCKS! One of their fans claimed they "had the blueprint" to stopping the option after beating Georgia Tech.
Navy rolled and I love it.
Everybody has the blueprint to stopping the option. It's not that difficult.
It's EXECUTING the blueprint that's tough.
This right here.
Listening to Will Muschamp after our game, it was obvious he knew exactly what we were doing and how to stop it, but the players couldn't do it. Execution is key, of course that can be said about all aspects of the game for all teams.
I saw enough of the TO this season against Navy, the only team that beat us by more then one score this season. And next season we got Navy and Ga Southern, we got to get it figured out over the summer.

I think the option is harder to stop today than it was a decade ago.
1. Corners have far less run support experience, there is so much emphasis on coverage and trying to break up passes you don't see a lot of great tacklers out there. Even in the NFL you don't see a lot of good tackling corners.
2. Most teams are lucky if they have two good run stop linebackers, today's linebackers tend to either be pass coverage specialists or pass rush specialists
3. There is an inordinate emphasis on chasing the ball and trying to blow someone up on defense. Hard to break that mindset and stay home to deny the pitch when the QB is right there to be hit.
I would add that DE are no longer as concerned with fundamental play so much as making the highlight tackle/sack. One of the big keys in stopping the TO is the DE's turning the outside play in by stretching the blocking out, allowing backside pursuit to come and make the play. There is no individual stat for it, so it isn't as important as that Sports Center hit (see Clowney making liosts of years top plays with his hit on a Michigan RB).
