Yes, a worse scenario would be nobody caring. Even the worst sincere criticism shows more interest than what 90% of this city shows.

The Bowl gives them additional work time. Really valuable for the true Freshmen and transfers.

It doesn't matter on the letdowns we've seen all season, I want this team in a bowl game to see these seniors one more time, minus a few times this season, this group has been outstanding in building Toledo football

RE: Bowl Game for Toledo?
We need to build for next season, period. Bowl game prep would go a lot farther in doing so than a bunch of intermittent workouts by the players throughout the offseason. Can't afford to let The Ball States and the NIU's and those other guys who played last night build up more of an edge than they already have by preparing for a game while we're not.
And as a fan, it's been so long since I've seen The Rockets on TV that I hardly remember what it's like, but I got to watch the potato game on TV, got to watch the U of A game on tv into the early morning last year, and those were nice experiences if not nice outcomes. So yeah, I'm mad that a lot of things didn't go our way this year too. I still hope there's another game to watch.

BG does not deserve a bowl game either then because they lost to Toledo, 4 years in in a row, at home this year. Enough said.

And we spanked a team last night that spanked you, at your home this season.

Tell Zac Kerin, Jayrone Elliott, Christian Smith, David Fluellen, Matt Wall, Vince Penza, etc... to their faces, that they don't deserve to go to a bowl game!!!

So you say they need practice. Just not during bowl season.

I think all that you listed earned it. But, there are a couple in "etc." that let us down.
The way I look at it, every year there are a BUNCH of BCS teams that shouldn't be bowling and the only reason they go is because they're in the BCS. So, the Rockets are the #4 team in the conference. If there are at least 4 tie-ins we should get one and I believe we will. The extra practice time will be helpful to the 2014 team and I think they deserve it after the humiliation they had to endure at Akron.

RE: Bowl Game for Toledo?
When some of us say we don't "deserve" a bowl game - it's true, at least the way I look at. NO team that is 6-6, 7-5, or sometimes even 8-4, deserve to go bowling. It's so watered down that bowl games don't mean anything anymore. Bowl games should really only be for 9+ win teams, or teams that finish 1-3 in their conference. Not 10th place, 6 win teams from BC$ conferences.
So does UT really "deserve" to go to a bowl game? No. But do they "deserve" a bowl game under the current bowl set up? Hell yes!

RE: Bowl Game for Toledo?
Actually bowl games have little to do with "deserving" or "not deserving", rather it has ALL to do with turning a buck for a community, ESPN or the bowl sponsors.
If deserving were a factor the nationally ranked 2000 10-1 Toledo Rockets would not have been passed over for the last bowl slot (Silicon Valley) for a sorry 6-5 Arkansas team that lost thus becoming an even sorrier 6-6 team.
If deserving were a factor the 1999 (or was it 1998?) 10-1 Miami team would not have been passed over for a sorry 6-5 UNC team that Miami had actually beaten earlier that year in Chapel Hill.
PS: If UT gets a bowl opportunity, they would be fools not to accept it from a number of perspectives. It is not the responsibility of the fans to decide whether or not the team receives an invitation; however, if fans feel the team is not worthy of receiving an invitation then they are certainly under no obligation to attend (or even watch) the game if they so choose.

RE: Bowl Game for Toledo?
Arguably the most dominant team we ever had (2000) loses once. Once. Misses a bowl. Now we're sitting here arguing whether a team that was a couple of plays from being 5-7 deserves a bowl.
If we get in, I'll watch. I'll root. But it just doesn't seem like it means much anymore. A bowl used to mean something, now it's on par with a participation trophy and a juice box...
I guess the kids could use some extra practice, but to get something that 50% or more of FBS gets is not really a badge of honor and I wouldn't like to hear about Toledo being lumped in with the "see, this is why there are too many bowls" arguments.
