RE: UAB's Garrick McGee promises changes, evaluations 'from top to bottom'
Watkin's comments have nothing to do with the football program shutting down. That's not happening.
What he is probably referring to is maybe some guys leaving (either voluntarily or by a coaching decision). I don't know the players well enough to know if there are some guys with the wrong character still within the program. If that's the case, hopefully McGee will tackle that issue head on.
McGee did say without hesitation that there would be staff changes. I'm fairly certain McGee knew some staff changes were necessary before today, but today only sealed the deal.
Everyone's emotions are raw after a loss like this, but given this season, is it really that huge of a surprise to anyone? We certainly could and should have won, but I wasn't surprised to lose. It's not acceptable, but I think McGee is aware of that and I honestly believe it's not acceptable to him either.
I expect significant changes on the staff and a commitment to defense and power football. McGee won't likely be let go after this season unless someone with some deep pockets steps forward and finances it. Otherwise, McGee will get at least one more year to show some improvement.

I think that GM has clearly shown that he really doesnt know how to coach a game and I also am convinced that he doesnt know how to make the decisions necessary to build a winning program. His enormous ego is unfounded, as evidenced by his failures over the past 2 years. Thats all Ive got.

He's hopeless. "Shaking up the staff" never works, it just prolongs the inevitable. The ONLY reason not to can him right now is financial.

RE: UAB's Garrick McGee promises changes, evaluations 'from top to bottom'
Listening to McGee's comments again and his emphasis on evaluating from "top to bottom" and "at every level" of the football program. I have to wonder if he is referencing on an administrative level in terms of facilities or commitment from the administration. Of course he isn't going to outright call out the administration who has the potential to push for his firing, but I do wonder if he is making a subtle call to the administration that they have to evaluate their commitment to the program.

Am I reading to much in to this. Does Diaheem know something that we don't officially know. UAB could be seriously thinking about shutting down the football program.
Yes, you're reading too much into that.
Ok. I guess we will find out Sunday before the UNC game.
If we don't still have a football team on Monday, I'll buy you a Coke.
Thanks.

Yep, Tommy NEVER had a losing season in his HC career, and Tater Tot has turned around an Akron program that was just as bad as UAB.

Tater Tot was only making $90,000 at UNA when Akron hired him at $225,000 a year.

The big question will soon be will will be the new DC. Not who will be head coach.
We need funds for additional facilities. Keep your eye on the big picture.
I actually saw some rumble on twitter last night, where some were considering trying to come up with buyout money..........may have been blowing hot air out of emotion though.

If we fire a coach after two years, it sets a really, really bad precedent. Our program has enough problems as it is, we don't need to add to them. If there are not drastic improvements across the board next season, then it's time to start discussing his future.

When you fire a coach a couple of years after winning a NC, or
a 8-3 season, I can see that............no so much so after 3-9/2-10 season, finsihed off by getting curb stomped on your home field by a 0-23 team........ Not too many people outside of Birmingham really care too much what UAB does anyway

Okay, so if we fire him after 2 awful seasons that were preceded by many bad season, who is going to come coach here knowing they could be axed in 2 years?
