Those Nebraska injuries hopefully will help Iowa win the game and continue to raise their stock. It's too bad we didn't get much credit for the Iowa win in the polls at the beginning of the year, when Iowa was not respected much after losing like 6 games in a row last year to finish 4-8.

Wouldn't have mattered at all, NIU was not going to be allowed to move up. Its up to the computers to save this cluster*uck known as the human polls, and an Iowa win could help with the computers.

Don't forget about LSU / Arkansas ... This should be a win-win for NIU gaining on Fresno in the coaches poll.
LSU blowout win means they could jump Fresno ... At worst they come to a "tie" with Fresno and Fresno probably loses about 20 votes in the coaches poll as some pollsters move LSU ahead of Fresno.
LSU loss means LSU drops below NIU ... NIU probably picks up 50 votes in the coaches poll and maybe Fresno picks up 15 votes.

MD...you are wrong!! If voters had known how good Iowa was going to be, voters would have given the Huskies instant credibility with their win over the Hawkeyes. Instead, Fresno got the win that was perceived to be good giving them a big head start in credibility.
I know there are some voters holding us back. But, more than anything, the perception and results in the first 3-4 weeks set NIU back and gave Fresno a bogus lift.

They just showed Nebraska's new arena-where we play our next game. Too bad they didn't mention NIU. :(

NIU was actually one slot behind Fresno 46-31 in the coaches poll after the Iowa win. After the bye week and ugly wins early in the season, the wedge developed and we aren't going to jump several AQ teams in the polls from defeating MAC teams later in the season. Had the Iowa win been more credible at the beginning of the season, we would've jumped Fresno and could have made it hold up if we hadn't won ugly the next few games, causing the pollsters to move other teams ahead of NIU and allowing the wedge to develop.
Fresno actually lost votes after that ugly win against Rutgers.

It's hard to fathom now, but Northwestern would have been ranked at the time if we'd played and probably vaulted NIU 10+ spots, and all we'd be worrying about is taking care of business in the MACC. Thanks, Jiff!
