Liberal significant others?
Who heres got em? I do not but my buddies do. They force us to go to this gay bar yesterday b/c it is "fun" but it is really b/c they want to prove the fact that they are not racist or homophobic in the least bit. Anyway so were playing pool and I am getting along when this gigantic lesbian taps my elbow on purpose and blows the game. The music is so loud and techno like I was on edge. There were some hot girls there but the music is so loud you could hear anyone anyway. I could care less as clearly I have no issues with gay people but they truly do have a completely different set of priorities. But that is their prerogative and there is nothing wrong with it; what gets me are people that feel the need to prove these things for whatever reason.

Anyone else encounter these situations due to a SO?

It's caused by the same disorder that causes white guilt. It's an identity and self esteem disorder.

I actually almost included that in my post as it is very similar to white guilt but at least white guilt had some merit back in the day.

White liberals have bathed in their own self hatred for so long, it can be any issue regarding discrimination.

I dated a liberal girl last summer. She got mad when I refused to consider playing with certain kinds of "toys". She called me ignorant and closed minded.

I'm dating a socialist who minored in feminism, sexuality, and gender studies. No, I am not making that up. She told me I was sexist for calling Miley Cyrus ugly with short hair.

Luckily, my girlfriend is completely apolitical. She doesn't care about politicians or government. It's like they don't even exist to her which makes me very happen as a libertarian. She lives her life without any real thoughts for government.

Lucky for me, my wife is conservative. But an ex love of mine moved to California and doesn't understand why people think it's a liberal state. She's so off the rails these days that if we had gotten married it wouldn't have lasted simply because of our political views.

GF is a democrat but never actually thought about why. She just was.

She's slowly coming toward classic liberal views of govt. as she really thinks about the "why?" of it all. She'll never come as far as I am (and I'm not all that far, calling myself a "capital L" Libertarian) but she's moving in the right direction.

1) Nobody forced you to do anything

2) the gay folks probably didn't want you there

3) I'm a liberal and I've never once set foot in a gay bar...of course, I hate bars in general.

My guess is “taps my elbow” is an euphemism of sorts.

I was married from 1990 to 2003. My ex-wife came from an extreme left-wing family that supported George McGovern, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, etc. After a few years with me, she saw the light. She's now a conservative and she mocks the illogic of liberalism.

My wife was the stereotypical college liberal that moved to the right once we got married and had to battle through some financial struggle on our own.
