If it's not JMU, it WILL be Liberty.
Liberty appears to be out. Too much baggage. There has been a lot of communication between SBC West Members and Missouri State of late, and the hope is to convince the Bears to take an invite.
EKU is pushing hard for an invite, though they have some work to do.
If Karl Benson had a choice, Liberty would already be in the league.
Benson said it will be an eastern team.
EKU is way way way far away from FBS.
MSU is in play, of course, but convincing a basketball school to become a football school is tough.
So after that, who? Neither EKU or MSU are likely to move. No Southland schools will be invited....so who?
Liberty
There are at least four solid no votes on Liberty in the Sun Belt. Only takes three to block expansion. The Sun Belt will stay at 11 unless JMU or Missouri State choose to apply.
I can understand the four SBC teams feeling the way they do about Liberty. Almost the entire CUSA feels the same way about ASU
This is being said from a fan of a school that when they announced they were leaving their existing conference, the collective response by every A-10 team was "Good. You never really competed in our league in our primary sport anyway (men's basketball)."

I hate to break it to you...but we don't have any interest in CUSA either.
MAC???
Would depend on the new TV contract, bowl revenue sharing practices and a few other factors.

Related to this thread, this is an interview with our AD. Mainly discusses the firing of Coach Matthews and the coach search, but some realignment tid bits thrown in. A lot of fluff, but an interesting comment: we are not looking for a football only invite.

I would also note the comments from the AD in the interview say "strategic fit". Strategic is about the last thing you think about when looking at the SBC. Desperate is what comes to mind there.
The MAC has more flexibility to offer JMU right now with CUSA sitting at 14 and all those western teams. I could see the MAC trying to package JMU, ODU and Delaware together into its East Division. Old Dominion might take the bait since they are left without a rival in CUSA now that East Carolina has moved on.
I think the MAC is worried that if they take JMU in by itself that as soon as a spot opens in CUSA they'll be gone with ODU sitting in the conference. Thus it makes sense for the MAC to take both and close off the state of Virginia to CUSA.
