It was set up with the previous runs with the wildcat and we ran twice in wildcat at the goaline...then the third was the jump pass. It was a great read by the linebacker and a poor pass. It happens.

I would suggest the turning point in the game was when we had the ball in quarter 3 at NIU's 35 yard line 4th and 1. We had just given up a touchdown...we were trailing...we needed a counter punch. We opted to punt. Up to that point we had been able to power for yards when we needed them. It did seem our running backs were a bit beat up though. I would have run the ball to try for the first down. We punted...great punt and coverage...but they responded with a 99 yard drive that put us down 2 scores. That crushed us. Had we scored on our drive rather than punting...who knows?

Wildcat jump pass is a stupid, stupid call every time it's intercepted. Wildcat jump pass is sheer, offensive genius everytime it' s completed for a score. On the other hand, a power run behind your big line is always the right call on short yardage situations unless you fail to score at which point it becomes predictable, vanilla offense and one that should cost the OC his job for not calling the wildcat jump pass.

BTW, I like using " Rosie the Dozer" in those short yard situations. He won't break any long ones but he's tough to stop for the first two yards.

Rosie the Dozer...lmao! 03-lmfao

I would suggest that the turning point was the first drive of the second half. After making it tough for Northern's offense in the first half, Rocket defense was nowhere to be found just after the second half kickoff. Northern drove something like 85 yards in 5 or 6 plays scoring in 2+ minutes to take the lead. That was even with an offensive penalty thrown in. So their players had to gain renewed confidence that they could get the job done, given how easily they put those points on the board.

Let us see where NIU and BSU are when Lynch and Wenning are gone. Both of those guys are special

Owens did not develop because for too many years the coaching staff could not see that he had more upside than Dantin and they kept splitting time. That being said, I expected alot more from Owens this year with the job his.

On the plus side, the Rockets are going to a bowl game somewhere. Those two weeks of practice need to focus on who are quarter back is next year

Campbell needs to let his OC call the plays. He said on the presser that he called the jump pass. I wonder how many times Campbell trumps Candle. Something is going on where a play is called but its getting held up at the sidelines. And that might be Campbell getting the call and then changing it up.

Candle is the same offensive coordinator who called plays to Bernard Reedy totaling 13 receptions for 37 yards in the loss to Ball St. Jason Candle's offense consisted of a horizontal passing game. I have heard that Campbell has taken over some of the play calling duties since then, much more of a running game with a vertical passing game.

I disagree.

Remember two years ago when the UT offense was a top 20 offense nationally? A young guy named Matt Campbell was the Toledo Offensive Coordinator.

I think Campbell should take over the OC position. Perhaps he could make a phone call and talk to Sean Payton in New Orleans for a few pointers on how to be both Head Coach and the Offensive Coordinator.

Notice how the skinny post pattern to Reedy has returned to the offense? Much like the Military Bowl against Air Force.

I agree...Campbell needs to be the joint HC/OC. Candle should be Recruiting Extraordinaire.
