Highest returning PER in New CUSA. 25.1, he's got to be pretty legit to put up production like that.

I must confess I'm not familiar with what PER rating entails, but he's super efficient, shoots a great percentage, rebounds the ball very well for his height, and can play in 3 different positions. To boot, he's a great kid off the court.

So far so good. Even with the restricitions for this coming season, he's done very well recruiting-wise, and I've heard a lot of good things from people from his time at Norfolk State. Still, no idea how he will perform as a coach in C-USA, but we are hopeful as a fanbase that he will continue growing the program from where Richard Pitino left it.

This guy certainly looks like a good pickup:

Offers from Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Virginia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Marquette, and Miami. Very impressive.

Lower level of talent and in less minutes. Richmond only averages about 20.1 minutes per game. That is only a half of basketball. When Richmond played 28.1 minutes per game at URI; he was less effective.

Richmond is a good player and will undoubtedly have the green light this year, but we just saw this a few years ago with Sam Hinnant and Legan; and those guys finished under .500.

That was never the point. It's all relative to the level they are playing on. Richmond will be judged in a POY/1st team all CUSA race in that context vs other CUSA players. I just pointed out that if Redick can win a ACC POY, Richmond can with a similar line as effective as he was scoring at this level.

That was 3 years ago, under a different coach, with a redshirt in between. What happened the last 13 games of last season when Lebo had to play him extended minutes because of injuries? It was 16ppg in 28 minutes per game on higher percentages to close the year. Which example do you think logically is a better projection? Something from Feb-April of this year or 2010-2011 at a different school?

RE: CUSA basketball starts this week
Akeem didn't play so well in the CIT. Sure he hit the game winning shot in the final game, but his shooting %'s were really bad and his scoring totals were bad considering the amount of shots he took.

Coming off a great run of success to close out conference play, I imagine teams in the CIT focused most of their efforts on him and effectively shut him down. That or he's a streaky shooter that you can't hinge your success on.

He shot 28.8% in the CIT and 27.7% from 3 with just a hair over a 1:1 assist to turnover ratio. When you have a mediocre rebounding team and you miss 32 shots in 5 games, you're potentially giving up quite a bit of points on the other end of the floor.

That said, I'd like to have a player like Akeem on my team because I know he can get hot. I just wouldn't want to tie my success to him because he looks like a streaky shooter than is ineffective when he faces strong defenders.

He slumped for 3 games after like 10 straight good ones. You can't show me any player in the game that doesn't go through ups and downs during a season. Durrant had 38 points last week and 15 a couple nights later. It works itself out over the course of a season and the cream rises to the top if it's cream.

In the CIT we don't comeback from 15 down in the last 4 minutes in round one without Akeem leading the way to even get to the walk off shot which he took with confidence even after he has been in a slump.

Quote:Coming off a great run of success to close out conference play, I imagine teams in the CIT focused most of their efforts on him and effectively shut him down. That or he's a streaky shooter that you can't hinge your success on.

...and you think they weren't focused on him the previous 10 games when he had been killing it, or the previous 10 games before that where he lead us to multiple 2nd half combacks? After he had already brought us back single handily vs UNCG (in game 3), UNC, UMass, Campbell, Houston etc from double digit deficits in the 2nd half or we get blown out? Everyone that watch any film knew what he was in the game for and how potent he could be. Lot more to do with him simply slumping than D's. He still got his shots off and that's the key you look for because D's still couldn't stop him from getting them.

Quote:That said, I'd like to have a player like Akeem on my team because I know he can get hot. I just wouldn't want to tie my success to him because he looks like a streaky shooter than is ineffective when he faces strong defenders.

What like UNC, USM, UMass etc ? I'll say this. Richmond is not as sure fire a slam dunk of a bet as Kemp was to almost double his numbers with more minutes and be All Conference like I called last preseason, simply because 3 point shooting is a skill that can come and go even for the best of them unlike being a slashing 6-8 guy that scores around the basket, but the upside is higher when he's on too. If he plays the whole game vs UNC, UMass etc we probably win when we shouldn't have. I wouldn't bet against Richmond either I saw enough last year to know he's unconscious and he's made 261 at 38% for his career. I'd give him the greenlight all day.

MT hosts a good Southern team on Sunday. Southern made the Dance and took Gonzaga to the wire, last season. Beat Texas A&M in the regular season.

Lady Raiders host the Lady Vols on Friday. 04-jawdrop

That was a fun game. I was shocked at how pathetically inept ECU was at rebounding the ball.

We out-rebounded them 41-17 03-lmfao03-lmfao

One game NN, it happens. We actually were a solid rebounding team for the season. I wasn't shocked how pathetic a shooting team both from the line and outside you guys were for the entire season. Like worst in the nation bad. I won't be shocked this year when your guys can't throw it in the ocean again either because they simply can't shoot for $hit.

Our season finished ranked higher than both UNCC and UTEP. Reintroduce you to the dozens of games bottomline.

Our team was better than your team last year. UTEP beat ECU at ECU. ECU improved their rankings by playing in a tournament that UTEP will never play in as long as Tim Floyd is our coach. It is like sleeping with a fat chick just to get some. We have higher standards for our basketball program.

Wrong!

ECU was in the bottom third of the nation for both Defensive (310th) and Offensive (245th) rebounding percentage.
