Liam is right. I would argue that the Walmart Sparty's are equally as obnoxious. Notre Dame is right up there too, especially in West Michigan.

Ok, I didn't realize, for some reason it was my understanding that he was a Purdue alum. :Edit, I mistook ghost broncos post for saying THAT guy was his BIL.

When you live in SEC country, you'll have a full appreciation for highway alumni who aren't qualified to even fill out an application for the school that they align themselves too. Pretty gross.

I don't think MSU even compares to UM and ND when it comes to the sheer size of the bandwagon. UM and ND are among the handful that get it on a national level (go to any sporting goods store or mass merchandiser in any major city, and there's their logo somewhere).

Anecdotally, my experience with MSU people, they are much more congenial-much less arrogant than U-M or ND fans.

It's been my experience that MSU people are much more tolerable than UM or ND posers.

Years of having to experience some humility with your team will do that. scUM fans get to claim they are the winningest program in NCAA history, and have won all those National championships (though only a shared one since the 50s), ND was the first national program and has won a few national championships, But MSU has had quite few bad stretches in there which until recently UM and ND have avoided.

The irony is that MSU fans hate walmart wolverines yet long for the same recognition that ND/UM receive. With that kind of recognition comes more bandwagon fans. I won't be complaining when that happens though.

I know several MSU alums and they're good people. I can count on one hand the number of WalmartSparties I've met. There just aren't many out there.

Conversely, I know a few UM alums and most of them are cool also. But I've met gobs of Walmartwolves and they're insufferable.

In the 6 months I lived in Northern Indiana I don't think I met one ND fan that had ever attended college, let alone ND. The local party store had a line on Saturday. Each guy had ND gear on, ordered a pack of basic cigs, and purchased a bag of cheese puffs and a 24 pack of Old Mil.

Not an exaggeration. I don't know that many Walmart Sparties, the ones that would "qualify" as one by our loose definition usually have a tight family allegiance to the school for one reason or another.

Conversely, I went quite a long time without knowing a real UofM community person (alum, student). I almost got to the point where I wasn't sure they existed, when I did meet a few in the Northwest Detroit LIONS Club, I was pleasantly surprised how much different they were than their fake counterparts.
