You made reference to the Old Style bottles behind the "Social Media Pessimist" in the video - like it's a bad thing.

It's called parallelism.

No I said guys like that have old style openers on their belts, live above their means and have elitist attitudes. You can hang out in wrigleyville with B1G alums and pay $6 for a glass of sub premium beer for a while and tell me how it wears on you. Then some twink going on a rant about how nobody else deserves to root for his school might strike you different.

Your obsession with me has allowed you to reach a new level of irony. If only you had enough self awareness to realize that months of obsessing about and combating another poster on a message board was kind of in itself an indication of what you like to accuse others of. Oh well, I guess if you understood the joke you wouldn't be one. Internet on DB, this is your board after all. 27,871 nuggets of brilliance and counting.

CMU alum here, be nice.

This guy is an idiot. I agree with disliking the Wal-Mart Wolverines and Save-A-Lot Spartys. Don't claim an allegiance to a school you didn't attend. It's disrespectful when MSU/UM beats one of our MAC teams like EMU/WMU/CMU and you hear "we" beat "you" guys. Who the hell is we? I paid $80k to go to CMU to go somewhere in life, you didn't go to school. Don't disrespect the institution.

However....

Any fan can root for whoever the heck they want to. So if my mom went to MSU I can't root for them? Alright boss. If that were the case, college football wouldn't exist. Root for whomever you'd like, but don't disrespect the institution. Believe it or not, people who never went to UM or MSU make generous contributions by donating, paying for tickets, gear, etc. I'm an MSU fan 2nd, after CMU. But I guess I can't root for them because I didn't go there...

The issue is when WMU/CMU/EMU alumn/current students root for MSU/UofM ahead of their MAC school.

So long as you weren't wearing MSU attire when the Spartans visited Dismal Flats last year, you're good.

I remember they had an article about CMU students going to that game in MSU gear and I literally wanted to puke.

Exactly. And the video clip guy really should've honed in on this specific point.

Still fun to poke fun/mock Walmart Wolverines in general - especially the more obnoxious types - but it's the ones rooting against a school they actually attended that really tends to aggravate.

george14 gets it. The sport would be diminished greatly if we had to follow Lincoln Park gingers rules.

I have no problem with maintaining an allegiance to a school you grew up rooting for, nor with rooting for a school you have family connections to, but like most others the problem comes when students and alumni root against the school they actually attended, in favor of Big Name U.

What is more I knew a person who was a UM football fan and a MSU basketball fan, If you are going to root for a team that isn't yours be consistent and don't switch based on which is successful in each sport.

I do have a problem with that. Life isn't fair. Does MSU love the ******* who didn't go to school there? No, but it loves his money.

For the most part, the vile is directed at the highway ND alumni and Wallmart Wolverines, then the few non directly aligned Broncos, Chips and Sparty's get all butt hurt over the poorly stated definition and criticism.

Thus the endless discussion of Walmart/Highway alumni that this thread will become. I remember having this discussion about sixteen years ago on mlive's board, and at least twice a year since, good times, good times.

My brother in law is one of these guys. Has his degree from wmu but we are not trendy enough so he is a Wal-Marter. He came over Saturday to watch the game and my son wore a green shirt just to make fun of him. We went in the other room and watched a real football game. He had no idea wmu had a bye but sure as hell had his baby in her go blue diaper or whatever the hell it was. Makes me want to puke but very proud that my 12 year old sees the problem and makes fun of him.

RE: Ode to the Walmart Wolverine
I'm just saying: Everyone has a walmart fan base in an AQ conference. Spartys act like its a Michigan phenomenon and they get 75,000+ alums and students at SS every weekend. While its more pervasive in Metro Detroit because of generations of winning football and the Lions not being a real NFL franchise its by no means isolated to UofM. I've seen my fair share of WMU students and grads rooting for both, its equally irritating.
