How I loathe that scoreboard. The bulbs are so far apart that if they try to squeeze a word on there with 5 or more letters, it's illegible.

My bet is that they got into some trouble off-court.

RE: B-ball game
For those of you who may be planning on coming to see the Huskies at the Convo this year, there are some changes to be noted. These appear to be cost saving measures.

1) When the men and women are home on a weekend, there will no longer be one game on Saturday and one on Sunday. They are both now on the same day. Saves the use of the Convo for one day. For the very few of us who attend both games, it's a double header!

2) Two of the Convo entrances (#1 and #3) will be closed. Saves staffing of those entrances. Three entrances on the east side (#2, #4, and #5) remain open.

3) All of the parking lots are open, but you will have to walk to entrance #2 or #4 if you park in C#1. There is now a dedicated section in C#2 for HASF donors closest to the entrances on that side (very nice!).

4) The upper bowl will be retracted and not opened unless the lower bowl fills up (not much chance of that). The upper bowl has been GA, so not sure how that will work. I guess everyone will now need to get a reserved lower bowl seat. This makes sense in providing Athletics with a bit more ticket revenue while filling up the lower bowl a little more and making the place look a little fuller.

5) Changes in food selection. They no longer have all the imported beers. Instead, they now have some beers on tap: Bud, Bud Light, Stella, and 312 (Stella and 312 cost $1 more). On Saturday, the taps were pumping out mostly foam. They will get that fixed. Food selections changed a bit, but still good. The Vienna footlong (and fat!) monster hot dog went up in price from $4.50 to $6.25 (still worth it). Also, they now serve a Mike Ditka Polish sausage! All sandwich selections now come with waffle fries.

Other items of note:

1) Time for a new video board. The screen looks darker and fuzzier than it did last year. When I was looking at it, I thought I forgot to wear my glasses.

2) Convo is still dark. The lights are off over the upper bowl stands (as usual). The darker video screen made it seem a little darker (but maybe it was just me).

3) The sound system seems to have improved. I did not have any trouble hearing on Saturday.

4) Our superb football team played on Saturday. The score was not announced, nor was it put on the video board (neither men's nor women's game). That was not nice! But, they did run numerous ads for the Ball State game on the 13th.

RE: B-ball game
I want to post something on the women's BB but I don't want to start a new thread.

These girls play some exciting BB and are fun to watch. The ball possessions are only 30 seconds so they need to get the ball down the court and the shot off quickly. It's fast-paced, and the girls give it their all on the court. I feel bad that attendance is small, but that's just the way it is with women's BB.

My absolute favorite player is Amanda Corral. This girl is like a gym rat. She is constantly moving at high speed all over the court and gives it every ounce she has every minute she is on the court. We just love watching her play. My wife and I were commenting that she must have grown up with brothers who pushed her.

Several of the players stuck around and watched the men's game - which started 2 hours after their game ended. It was nice to see.

These girls may not win a lot, but they all give 100% in their exciting play. You cannot ask for more. Because there are not quite as many men's weekend games this season (and 2 are while I'm on vacation), I will actually attend more women's than men's games this year, which does not displease me. These girls deserve our support.

Kathi Bennett is the mystery to me. She had that odd suspension and lost her best player....scoring and height always seem to be a big issue for the ladies. Certainly not effort.

True. Many of our players (and the good ones) are around 5'06". However, in women's basketball you will not get anywhere near the height of the men's teams (generally speaking). The women are still able to penetrate to the basket (better than the men) and also hit the trey.

BTW, our projected best player, who transferred in, is out for the year with a torn Achilles.

Yeah, the ladies have had a decent history with guard play, from what I recall...but not as much luck elsewhere.

After watching many women and men's games last year, I believed that Bennett was a better X and O coach than MM. You could see the plays and the d the women were trying to do with not much talent. Many times with the men, I felt they had no clue what was going on.

I'm sure MM knows his Xs and Os, but it was the players who had trouble grasping them. As you said, it looked like they had no clue as to what was going on.

No doubt KB knows a lot about sets, growing up with bro Tony and daddy Dick....but Monty ain't no slouch in play calling but you gotta have the dudes to run the plays....at this level of men's basketball, it ain't about the X's and O's as much as it is the Jacks and Joes...the guys got more than a couple of guys who can create on their on for a change which is so needed when shot clock is winding down....look for Dontel and the Armsteads to attack the bucket and DB has become a rim rattler.

It's hard to judge either coach on ability yet, as they haven't been able to get too many horses.

There is no question in my mind that the men will be better this year. They now have some of those horses that were missing the past few years.

Do not take BSU lightly. A long history predates this game.

BSU has played NIU 40 times and holds a 20wins-18 losses-2draws advantage.
At games at BSU: NIU has a 10-7 record.
At games at NIU BSU leads 13-8-2 !!!! So much for home field advantage?? - 5 games

For reference: (BSU Against Toledo: Series is tied at 19-19 with Toledo winning the last game this year.)

Although we have won the last 4 straight, BSU has played us tough under Pete Lembo, who despises NIU.
REmember last years voting that nearly cost us a trip to the Orange Bowl. Pete Lembo was the only MAC coach to low ball NIU!

They have a huge chip on their shoulder coming into this game and will be prepared to the max.
A win for BSU will give them payback for the last two years and the National limelight and the MAC West championship.
NIU will need to play its best game to prevent an upset.
This game will be a nationally televised clash of the MAC West Titans!

Maybe some Toledo fans can share some advice on how to beat Pete Lembo.

If ever NIU needs to rally the faithful this year, this is the best time to do so.
Give every students a free soda drink.
Give locals $5 tickets and organize bus transport.
Hire busses to get local high school students at the game with a free pass.
This marketing opportunity this year must be utilized to the maximum.

I majored in history, graduated with honors. History is meaningless in this case.
