U.N. Attacks GOP For Shutting Down Government, Defends Obamacare…
So the UN gets their talking points from the White House now....

A United Nations’ review of the United States’ compliance with international human rights norms will not happen as scheduled because of the partial government shutdown, and the chairman of the reviewing body blames the Republican Party.

The Geneva-based Human Rights Committee was due to have examined the U.S. record on Thursday and Friday, but reluctantly agreed to postpone the session at the request of the U.S. government.

The discussion, which is expected to include scrutiny of such controversial issues as Guantanamo Bay detentions, National Security Agency surveillance and “stand your ground” laws, has been moved to next March.

The committee’s chairman, Nigel Rodley, said as he opened a three-week session on Monday that the panel was normally unwilling to grant extensions at short notice, but he felt he had no choice on this occasion. [...]

Rodley, a British international law professor, then went further, laying the blame for the rare postponement squarely at the door of the GOP and its stance on Obamacare.

“The political party of Abraham Lincoln that, in fire and blood ended slavery and gave freedom to millions of people of African descent, seemed now to have party members who thought that wealth did not just rhyme with health, but should also determine access to it,” the U.N. record of the meeting cited him as saying.

“To achieve its aim it has brought the government of the United States to a standstill and to the brink of defaulting on its national debt.”

The US bankrolls the UN. Truly shut down US government means no money for the UN to give away to international cartels and spend studying the Amazonian Purple Bellied Fruit Bat mating rituals on the third Tuesday following Winter Solstice when in the proximity of a Jehovah's Witness facility and mormon bike factory.

I feel like the GOP is the only group that thinks this isn't the GOP's fault.

Of course, because proposing several negotiations that obama and the senate turn down puts all the blame on the GOP. Goon

Manufacturing a shutdown in order to try gain leverage over your opponent is not democracy.

The Senate is actually getting something done, if you haven't read the news lately.

Good point. There are several industrialized countries that have better and less expensive health care systems than the United States.

This isn't true in all cases (even within the same country).

no they don't all have universal healthcare.
And many of those that do are a financial mess. The US is a financial mess without government run healthcare.

This isn't true in all cases (even within the same country).

Friends of ours in Sweden waited 12 hours to have their daughter's broken arm seen when they lived in Sweden (bone was sticking out of skin). They were amazed when their son was taking immediately at a US hospital.

I broke my leg when I was a kid in Ireland. I didn't wait one minute.

The care wasn't perfect but then again I've never experienced no issues in an American hospital either.

So the US isn't a representative democracy?

What does your anecdote say about lines in countries that don't use the same method of universal healthcare as Sweden?

Did you break your leg in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland?
The difference matters as the two have totally different healthcare systems. It also matters when you were a kid as the Republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK and participates in the HSC which is essentially the NHS for Northern Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland before 2004 was private healthcare. The Irish have only had the Health Service Executive run public system combined with a private system since 2004.

The HSE is known for very long wait lines:

http://www.movetoireland.com/movepag/medover.htm

"Free it may be, but you're also free to wait. Waiting lists for those without private insurance can stretch into years - even for critical operations like heart operations. There are tens of thousands of people waiting for their "free" medical services… …To cut down the waits, you need to pay for private health insurance. "
