Why not the Big 10?? They have 9 tie ins for 14 teams. The SEC has 10 tie ins for the same number of teams and they aren't giving the ACC the Capital One Bowl in the years they are in the Orange. And not to tilt this towards the SEC but they are more likely to place more teams in the playoff/access bowls as well. So I would be surprised if the Big 10 didn't add at least one more.

Because chances are they are not going to even have enough eligible teams to send to their current tie-ins which is the reason why I thought you AAC guys wanted to get as many backups as possible for those P5 bowl games.

Yeah, I seem to remember this being said alot about UCF never joining the BE as long as USF was in the conference.

As always, future additions would depend on what the conference needs, and the attributes of the school being considered. Trying to expand the footprint? Or cement a presence in a major state? Trying to land a big school? Quality program? Passionate fanbase?

Just like UTSA would bring in San Antionio on top of Houston, Dallas... you could bring in FIU to get Miami, on top of Tampa and Orlando. But if either UCF or USF did leave, I'd bet money on another Florida addition.

I would feel much better if we had a solid PAC tie in for this one...

I would also feel better if the venue was a football stadium.

You may end up being right if this does not work out well for FB. I've not been to BOBB or Pinstripe, but most seem to dislike FB in a BB stadium, yet here we are creating yet another such Bowl.

There are some online images of Marlins Park laid out for Soccer (can google to see)... I'm hoping they can move the field up along the 1st base line and perhaps add some temp bleachers along the far sideline to improve. For this game though, higher likely to be better for viewing.

The positives are a brand new and beautiful venue... and they probably really want the game so hopefully we'll get a good deal compared to a FB stadium. We're going to own it and operate it...

Problem with BOBB isn't that its in a baseball field, its that the trop is a dump. Even their baseball team can't draw flies.

Build before they had a team, so built on the cheap... but when the Devil Ray team was awarded I think they spent an additional 50 million or so to fix it up. I don't think it's that bad, but I know I'm in the minority. In hindsight, putting it way off in downtown St. Pete was a mistake, but it was St. Pete that took the initiative to build it, in an attempt to reinvigorate their downtown... they got the team (eventually) but didn't really get the shot in the arm they hoped for. Needs to be in a more central location, and the team is working on that as we speak... various proposals for new stadiums.

Orlando would be a nice "central" location. 04-cheers

The difference is that for the BE/AAC it was a matter of survival. The BE/AAC HAD to add UCF. It had no choice.

As long as there is a choice (ie: the AAC can survive without them), then FIU or FAU will not be added as long as USF and UCF are members. If it is a condition of league survival, then yes, they could be added.

Ha! In all seriousness though, if the team wants to succeed it needs to consider baseball fans to the north, south and east. St. Pete really put the stadium out of casual accessibility for Orlando. East Tampa though, would do nicely. I hear they are considering property just off the west side of the HF bridge. IMHO that would be a huge mistake, needs to be in Tampa somewhere... St. Pete seems to have a death-grip on that team though...

This is it for soccer, I imagine a similar setup for football. Much better than the Trop.

I don't remember people saying that. But if they did, they were obviously wrong, and they should've listened to me COGS because I said several times that UCF and USF were likely to wind up in the same league, whether that league was called "Big East" or something else.

Essentially the setup is the same as BOB, but the stadium is much nicer. I like the position of the scoreboard further towards center field, it's a little strange at the Trop that you have to look away from the game to the right if you're in the right field stands (where most of the crowd is).

With the recent bowl announcements and the MWC pretty much announcing their new bowl schedule - has anyone with ties to their respective school's inner circles heard when the official AAC Bowl Announcements might come out. Aresco and the AAC have pretty much kept everything close to the vest so far. 04-cheers

Much of the line up has already been announced. The AAC is announcing them piecemeal rather than all at once. The article says the Marlins Bowl announcement is tentatively scheduled for next week (Tuesdays seem to be the favorite day). Interestingly, the AAC did not issue releases on the Boca and Bahamas Bowl last week when the MAC and CUSA chose to. So, I would think details relating to our involvement in all 3 bowls (Boca, Bahamas, Marlins) will be presented together when the Marlins bowl is officially unveiled. That should be it for primary bowl ties for the AAC. All that would be left to announce is back-up ties (assuming there are any).

Even if that happened, it would not be a victory for the AAC because the AAC Representative would be responsible for bringing in ALL the fans. Those of us who have lived in the west, or have gone to bowl games with PAC teams playing know that PAC fans don't travel well to bowls outside of California. A 6-6 Cal or Arizona St will bring no fans with them. West Coast fans will not travel to Florida for this bowl game. The whole idea is to make this bowl game as successful as possible right? Now if the AAC could land another P5 conference's #8,#9,#10 or #11 like the Big 10, SEC or ACC then it could work granted the teams are still available. Getting BYU in the rotation would be good as well.

Thanks, but that has nothing to do with my point, which is, non-AAC fans think our opponent will suck, and AAC fans think it will suck less. Just like every other issue on a message board.

If I understand correctly, the only P5 opponent we have even a remote chance of getting is the PAC #8. So dreaming ACC, SEC or B10 is a moot point. You may have a point on the PAC fans traveling for a 6-6 team... But I believe the AAC fans will be much more likely to travel and see their school knock off a PAC opponent, than they will to see them roll over a SBC/cUSA team. Which at least partially makes up for the PAC travel issue.

You also didn't mention TV. A PAC opponent will get much more viewers than a cUSA or SBC team will. Waaaaaay more.

Getting a P5 opponent gets this bowl MUCH better cred nation wide, and dramatically helps the prestige of the AAC as we struggle to become the 6th best conference. We need to be seen as playing with the big boys wherever possible.

Look, most of these low tier bowls are not really selling out stadiums anyway, right? It's about TV.
