Drew Brittle It's alright because the dim, outdated lighting in the Convocation Center will drown out some of the tackiness of this "new and improved" court design.

Rob Neil this was my least favorite design of all of the submissions including the ones clearly submitted by kids. If the coaches like it then I can deal with it but this is absolutely terrible in my view.

Brandon James Trautman I was kinda waiting for you to come out and say this was a joke... Its good in theory, but just way too much going on. And the midcourt line of "James Madison University, James Madison, JMU, James Madison, James Madison University" is overkill

To be fair, there are also a decent amount of comments saying how much they like it. I think any design was probably going to get more negative comments than positive, anybody that cared probably had their one favorite picked out and was going to be disappointed with anything else. The only way you weren't going to get some people saying it's hideous and they hate is is you went with something pretty plain and conservative. Then you would still get people saying it was a chance to do something special and didn't.

You can never please everyone but it seems when you can't please anyone, you shouldn't do it.

I didn't filter that at all. Just took the most recent comments. So there's 1 guy who likes it and 8 that don't. And, you put jmusports.com on the baseline? I've never seen anyone do that. It doesn't get more ammeter than that.

No "Dukes" on the court at all, don't most courts have their schools nickname?

RE: new court design
One problem with it is that this does not seem to be the real design that "won". They took the one with the big Duke Dog heads (that received the most votes)...and added "James Madison University" to the sidelines...and then added the James Madison Signatures (in an uninspiring small white font)...and then moved the CAA logos into the middle of the design to make them stick out more....and then replaced the baseline text saying "DUKES" with an ad for their website. So any criticism that it was thrown together like a tornado is valid - it is a frankenstein design from multiple designers.

And while fake wood isn't always too bad, the very narrow "boards" that they use makes all of it waaaaay too busy to focus on anything. It completely ignores the fact that this should be a basketball court 1st and a gaudy piece of "art" 2nd. To me, this is akin to us switching to bright purple field turf for football.

I can't understand who voted for it (which they wouldn't show). Just going through the facebook comments, seems like about 80% of the people hate this. Go ahead again, admin!

As a reference, this was the design that I would have gone with:

So you think they need to spray a big logo all over at basketball court twice? That doesn't seem unnecessary?

RE: new court design
Well they did say they would take concepts from multiple designs. As for who voted for it, what do you mean they wouldn't show? You can click on "343 people like this" and see who they are just like any other facebook picture.

Looking at the original design this is mostly based on, the purple and gold around the outside looked a lot better when it had "DUKES" in the gold. If they were going to take that out, they should have gone solid purple all the way around.

What was so wrong with last year's design? Jeff Bourne will tell you it wasn't safe but who gut hurt because of it?

Not exactly. But there was this post with ten submissions:

"JMU Nation, your response to our Convo floor design contest was impressive. With your input, our creative team has narrowed down the submissions to 10 designs, which encompass many of the aspects found in the 65 submissions. Now we need your input! Carefully review each design and let us know your favorite aspects (not just which design you like best). Pay attention to details such as logos (choice, placement), floor finish, color scheme, hashtags, baseline/sideline/on-court text, how it translates for TV/MadiZONE viewership, etc. Provide your comments by June 10. Our team will use that feedback to piece together the final design. Go Dukes!"

And from the number of likes on the pictures, the one this was mostly based on had the most likes at 343 with the next most being 228. You're acting like they completely ignored what everyone had to say and just did what they wanted when it was pretty much the opposite.

In addition to it looking way too "animated" for lack of a better term, it looks like it would just be painful to play on. The players are going to get lost in the design and not be able to find the paint or 3 point line.

If they actually put jmusports.com on the baselines, that will basically be the end. NOBODY does that. That's embarrassing. I hate the whole thing, but to put your website (which isn't all that great) on the baselines is a joke.

If that's the case they shouldn't even make a middle school basketball team.

No big deal to me. We'll see how it looks when it can be seen in person as it is hard to portray a transparent graphic on the computer screen.
Perhaps they will use stickers for the CAA logos instead of painting them and then covering with a clear finish.

Yeah, the website is what is embarrassing. Not two oversized, misplaced duke dogs. Got it.

Stop being a JMUBOT where everything is wonderful and magical all the time. I don't give a crap about the opinions a bunch of 18 year old facebook girls who won't even show up to the games.

Sometimes things suck and they need to be pointed out. This court sucks, there is no other argument. If you are arguing that it does not suck, you are just wrong. End of story.

This.

Thats absolutely one of my favorites. I like this one too, but its also one of the ones I submitted so I might be slightly bias... Regardless, some changes need to be made if athletics really plans on making this the actual court design.
