Are these games a take away of what would of appeared on ESPN/ABC or are these games that would of fallen into the abyss without this agreement?

Some one please find out.

I wonder if the plan is to move NCAA games from TruTV to CBSSN at some point (not idea what their contract with the NCAA states). If that is the case, then I would suspect that they are about to make a huge jump in TV households in the very near future.

You go with that assumption, and I'll go with the assumption that Aresco was just flat out lying again. I mean it doesn't matter that much since I get that channel, but why does everything that comes out of his mouth end up not being anywhere near reality?

That deal starts with the upcoming basketball season. CBSSN getting into another 20M+ homes by then?

That's if that stipulation was ever actually in writing or just something Aresco was foaming at the mouth about.

Pretty sure its in writing. The only way this makes sense is if these are the 10% +/- of games that were essentially 3rd tier games that were not going to be nationally televised. Those games wouldn't fall under 70 million requirement. In fact, getting those games on any national network would actually be an upgrade over just local regional coverage.

As I edited above, CBS Sports is in 98 million homes according to their FAQ. They more than meet the standard.

According to an industry article I just read dated 8/13/13 they are currently in over 50M, up from 38M 2 years ago.

According to their FAQ, CBS Sports Network is available in 98 million homes:

http://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/faq/

Quote:CBS Sports Network is available to 98 million homes nationwide. The network is available on cable, satellite, and video provider systems including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish Network, Cablevision, Verizon FIOS, and more.

Available homes is not the same as subscribers. There are homes where its available, but has to be purchased as part of a premium tier. Subscribers is the number of people who actually receive the network on their TV sets. That number for CBS is around 50 million (compared to ESPN and ESPN that have 98 million subscribers, ESPNU has about 74 million).

It is "available" in 98 million homes as in 98 million people could potentially add it to their cable or satellite package (through a sports pack or similar). Not all 98 million homes of those homes actually have the channel. I believe they haven't even reached 60 million actual subscribers yet.

Can't be. ESPN was supposed to be 60 of the 66 games. Simple arithmetic suggests at least seven of the 60 would be CBSSN - meaning at most 53 games on ESPN.

Gigantic difference between the term they used "available to" and how many homes they are in. That network is not in 98 million homes. It theoretically could be, if all the subscribers to each of those providers bought the tier that CBS Sports was on. I pay extra to get the sports tier which has CBS Sports on it.

That's for a 10 team league. At 12 teams, wouldn't we have around 72-75 home games.

I don't think that is even accurate. I think the rule is that they have to be on TV providers that currently have a total of at least 70 million homes (not subscribers).

In this case, I think they say it's available thanks to being on Dish and DirecTV, but being that they don't necessarily have deals with all the cable companies they are short and closer to actually being on providers that come up to over 50M homes.

That being said, that can always be rectified in a very short period of time.

Yup. Maybe we are just CUSA, but without the conference name recognition factor. I'm basically disgusted by todays events.

Really have to start questioning the logic of selling off the Big East name during times like these and wondering if maybe the brand equity was undervalued.

DirecTV is moving the channel up to 221, which puts it near the ESPNs, Fox Sports 1/2, NFL, MLB, etc., channels. Not a bad spot to find them as it is no longer put under the regional flag.

Don't worry. I'm sure Aresco will soon have a big press conference to announce the new Marlins Bowl. Unfortunately, it will be AAC #1 vs AAC #2 since all of the other conferences will already have their bowl agreements locked up.

Here is the final say:
Quote:CBS Sports Network, part of DirecTV’s Choice Extra and Sports Pack offerings, counts more than 50 million subscribers and is available to more than 99 million households nationwide.
