If there was a perfect rival for 1-a football it would be JMU. Some (though not all) of ODU fans wish you guys would get your CUSA invite. Would create nice little travelable sked of ODU/JMU/WKY/MTSU/UNCC/WKY. That's a nice grouping, and one that I would embrace. THe two games we had were great. I want more, and want more that mean something at the next level.

Imagine how much faster that stadium expansion would proceed with $1MM paydays from SEC schools. This really is a win-win situation if you guys get your admin to get off their arses and play the cards that are your strengths. And you have good cards to play.

I'm going to assume you're being sarcastic but just in case you're not WKU-MTSU have played each other in football 60+ times. And they pretty much hate each other.

Good luck Dukes getting to C-USA/FBS, I'm all for more drivable away games. It's been a little too one-sided to call it a rivalry just yet though.

Well, the results unfortunately have been one sided. The games, however, were exciting games w/ good storylines.

I truly appreciate your post Smitty, and I agree it would be a win-win deal to find both JMU and ODU in CUSA. Not all of your brethren think that's true, and we've all (including both you and I) taken shots at each other's schools/athletic programs, but seeing JMU/ODU in the same conference would be in the enlightened self-interest of both institutions.

Nothing wrong with having lofty goals, but if Wilder wins a title at ODU, $350,000 will be a pittance compared to what he'll be offered by the coaching job he will be leaving for afterwards.

Chris Petersen is making $2M/yr, I'm sure given Boise State levels of success (or anything near that, let's be honest) ODU would gladly throw that kind of cash at Wilder. Still, you can never tell what motivates an individual and if the NFL or a team that could actually win an FBS championship, however that is manifested in the next 5-10 years, comes calling then the level of competition might be too much to not accept. Then again, maybe BW is settled, likes the area and this great project that he's made that's called ODU football.

It'd be wrong to assume that any decent mid-major coach will leave for the first big break that he's offered. It's also naive to assume that they wouldn't. That said, I think that BW wants to see just how far he can take ODU Football, from literally nothing to a bowl game perhaps? Maybe scheduling more and more SEC/B1G teams, perhaps even ranked at the end of a season. Non-AQ teams can do this, the MAC do it all the time, but there's only one really consistent team and that's Boise, one team out of 60 or so and ODU is not likely to get Boise levels of success, there's definitely a glass ceiling, but where is it? I don't know, but I'd love to find out.
