I was held up at a ghetto gas station today for 15 minutes b/c some idiot food stamp collector bought 117 dollars in lottery tickets. I had to use my card inside to pay for gas so I was stuck. Lottery tickets are nothing more than a tax on the poor, ignorant, and/or stupid IMO. What are your thoughts on the lottery?

All they really need to sell at these place are high fructose corn syrup, beer, lottery tickets, and 3 dollars worth of gas. Sorry about the rant but it caused me hardships at my job...

Lotteries are a tax on the stupid, but if they're paving your roads, then more power to them.

Well the government is paying their rent and food, so anything else is just disposable income. Pun intended....

P.S. The government rewards this behavior by punishing those who have savings.

In Canada we called it the idiot tax.

I kind agree with you man. Not that all people who buy them are morons by any means, but I see exactly what you are saying. Maybe if there was an automated vending machine located in the store or a separate line. I can't tell you how many times I am paying for gas with cash and have to wait for mullet man to cash in 8 his $3 dollar winning tickets.

The lottery doesn't really provide much money for the state. There is very little chance you or I are going to win anything approaching the amount the average person puts in. But if you don't get carried away, it can be a fun little diversion. It is nice to imagine what you might do if you win powerball or mega millions. I spend $4 twice a week on them. I joke that it is my retirement plan. I also wait until there isn't anyone behind me at the counter to get them checked or buy them. The best setup is when there are two lines and only one of them sells the lottery tickets.

You can always swipe your card at the pump.

Morons spend all their money, or ours depending on the situation, on lottery tickets. I do hate all the idiots that hold up a long line. Some people around me are nice enough to let other go first if they aren't buying lottery.

I'll buy a powerball when it gets stupid big, and I sometimes play the Cash 5 when its over $200,000 just since it's a NC only ticket.

I get pretty pissed when somebody has to take a bunch of time getting the #8, 23, 14, 4 no no no 3, Pick 3, and Carolina pick 5. Drives me nuts.

But that is a free enterprise decision for the business owner. He doesn't have to sell lottery tickets and some businesses don't. The cheapest gas in my town never sold lottery tickets. He just started doing it, but only after he set up a corner of the store to buy them. He always has two people working and whenever anyone wants a ticket they go over there and wait for one of the attendants to come over. It works pretty good.

That's fine. I can make decisions as a consumer, too. They'll lose my business, not because I begrudge lottery players, but because life is too short to spend it in line behind them.

I used to work at 7 Eleven and I would unplug the lotto machine during the coffee and lunch rushes. Almost got fired when I honestly told the disyrict manager how my sales went up.
